Does anyone else feel like this is just as big of a need as corner? Calvin Pryor played out of position all year last year and I feel like we aren't saying what he can do until we can move him back to SS. That being said I'm not super knowledgable as to the FS market in free agency? Anybody got any suggestions or thoughts?

Yes. It's a HUGE need. There are 3 decent to good FS who probably will be available in FA...Rahim Moore, Louis Delmas, and Kendrick Lewis.

Our whole secondary needs to be revamped...Need a vet at Corner and Safety. Prefer 2x vet corners and 1x vet safety

A good question to ask TB is wether or not Pryor will be more of a Free Safety or Strong.

A common bought is that he's better strong, but… I'd rather the expert give us a summation of Pryor's full potential, it might surprise.

Until then I have no clue what kind of safety we're looking for. though Allen seems destined for a "big nickel" role, so theres that.

    Gerod Holliman

Hopefully he can be had round 3 or later. Guy has a knack for finding the football.

i heard on sirius NFL radio this AM that Bowles told Sal Pal that he NEEDS 2 corners. So that is re-assuring.

We have not had a true free safety though. Frankly I think that is insane, but....free safety is the glue guy.

Yes. This is absolutely a huge need. Not only do we need one because we don't have one but also so Pryor can play his natural position and our young corners Milliner, Williams, and McDougle can grow at CB. This should be near the top of the list.

I would overpay for Devin McCourty and put Pryor back at SS.

The Jets need to find a FS so that Pryor can move back to SS, but I don't know if Holliman is that guy. He definitely has ball skills, but I've heard from Louisville fans that he is a terrible tackler.

How do we move Pryor "back" to a position he was never settled in?

Are we certain he isn't our free safety? he's had bad moments in pass coverage as a rookie so he can't get better?

I'm just shooting the breeze here, i'm wondering why we're giving up on our first rounder as a FS and why he's best as a SS... questioning the narrative...

I think it all depends on the people around him. In college he was a roamer... in Rex's system idk what he was... but he seems best suited for Run support because his judgement in coverage and angles are kind of weak. I'll give him an early pass since he's young though.

that moment with Jordy Nelson sticks in peoples mind doesn't it? ;)

mind you thats not even saying thats the only time he's been bad in coverage, he was rough there clearly.

But I get the feeling we're writing him off too quick as an asset in our pass D. DB's need time to adjust to things, I wonder what Bowles sees. wish somebody asked him about what he sees in him.

Yup... that Jordy play sticks well in my mind lol. And outside of that it seems like 3 out of every 4 TD's were thrown on him or Allen, and Allen was making a name for himself locking down TE's Ed Reed got here in 2013... soon as he went back to whatever safety spot Rex had him in Allen was getting destroyed.

Love Pryor's pursuit on plays coming out of the backfield though...and he did lay the hammer on a few victims this year, licked Marshall and Jefferey in the endzone in the same game.

that's the key question on Pryor.
he wasn't drafted in round 1 just to play SS. he looked terrible with cover 1 responsibilities last season, but was also just a rook.

will be interesting to see what Bowles looks to do in Pryor's second year.
my guess is he doesn't know yet himself, and will probably look to try some things in camp to see what works best.

He mentioned CB in his Combine Presser too, tho I took it as generic answers to the media. I got the feeling tho that he and Mac are well on the way towards their plans for the Secondary. I look forward seeing what Bowles does with Pryor, Bowles would appear to be the perfect guy to get the most of out of him

Bingo right here...this is the resolution. Put McCourty at free, move Pryor back to his natural Strong and STILL bring in two new CB's to compete with the subpar group of idiots we have now. (god what I wouldn't give to have the Dee Milliner pick back and have drafted Kyle Long...ahhhhh 20/20 hindsight)

How was Thomas Decoud in coverage last year?

Would love to have a rangy cover safety back there and see Pryor on some blitzes
