I feel like he really just wanted to play for "America's team" because that contract Is ass. Surprised at the number.
We've got Maye, Joyner, and Davis. It would have been nice to have Neal but it's not like we need a Safety. Hopefully we can spend that money on a corner or IOL.
Neal would have been playing WLB. At this point I'm hoping for Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah at 23 or Nick Bolton at 34. Alright I think that's enough of this bullshit for me today.
Pretty disappointing free agency overall. Marginal improvement at best. -Signed a solid #2 WR in Davis -Decent complimentary pass rusher in Lawson Outside of that a bunch of 1 year flyers (we saw how that worked out last year).
While I would have loved him on this roster, why would he sign another safety? We just signed Joyner who is likely playing safety. We have Ashton Davis and Marcus Maye.
It's annoying when people like Josina Anderson tweet a player is down to ________and the Jets and they always seem to sign with the other team. Not a surprise, but it just sets Jets fans up for an inevitable let down. I feel like the Bears fans are going through that too. People are reporting they wanted Galladay. How they were close to Russell Wilson but end up with Andy Dalton. It's frustrating and fans can't be sure if the reports are even true.
We're invested in the draft because we have the best overall draft capital this year and likely next as well. When you have currency you tend to invest and the Jets are flush right now.
Free Agency is not the primary source of talent the Jets are, or should be looking at. People really need to stop mentally building a starting roster with Free Agent names. The Jets have 5 picks in the top 3 rounds, and maybe another with Darnold. They have 4 second year players who were drafted in the top 3 rounds last year. That’s going to be at least 9-10 players in the top 3 rounds in 2 years, plus another 4+ next year.
The 1-yr flyers are literally just space fillers with an option. The reason the Jets are signing these guys is so that they preserve the cap space for next year without going naked this year.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Damn! I guess that he didn't want to play here. I can't imagine Douglas not being willing to beat $5 million per season. If it is the case that Douglas refused to go any higher, then he's not the right man for the job, and he needs to go now.
OUCH! Sorry, man! I know that watching the Cowboys with your wife is going to be pure hell now, watching both Neal and CeeDee Lam do what they could have done for the Jets.
I totally disagree. We don't need to stop doing anything, thank you. When you can get a 25- or 26-year old player in FA, it's like drafting him. Some of the players the Jets and other NFL teams have drafted have been 23 or 24. IMO when a GM gets the opportunity to sign a great player like Neal and at the low cost he was willing to sign for, and chooses not to because he thinks it's better to build through the draft, then he's clearly misguided, too conservative, and not in the right profession. One doesn't want to build a team exclusively with FAs, or with older, more expensive FAs, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with signing a 25-old player who can help your team for 5-10 years. To say otherwise, is just wrong.
Saving cap for next year is insanity. The cap will skyrocket and literally every team will have a ton of money and be in on every free agent. This was the off-season to spend big and long term contracts, next year guys are getting paid. We were one of the few teams in a position to do that, set up perfectly. I love JD but he needs to get over himself.
