I dont hear alot about him on this board and yet i feel he is the underrated dark horse candidate in the 2nd round. He has great speed, size and comes from a college that produced some great DBs in the NFL. NFL Draft Countdown did a great job of reviewing him. His downsides are coachable and the injuries are hopefully avoidable. But with the lineage of South Carolina backs, hes worth the try. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/cb/fredbennett.html
I was toying with putting him on my own list, but I opted against it for a couple of reasons: one, he doesn't like to hit, which is not deadly in itself, but two, he is not coachable. Put those two things together and you get the idea that he's a me-first player who is not willing to put them team ahead of himself, and THAT is a definitely Tangini no-no. Also, he supposedly lacks awareness in zone coverage, which is what we play the majority of the time. Lack of awareness always suggests to me that the person is not a student of the game. All it takes is a little study to understand what your assignments are and how to play them. That said, maybe "the truth" as Tangini calls it is different from what the draft sites tell us, so you never know, but he's not on my list.
Fred Bennett can cover and he was battle tested in the SEC. If the JETS opt not to get a cornerback in round one, I have them taking Fred Bennett with their 63rd pick.
