I arbitrarily decided the minimum # of safeties would be 4 on the final 53. If needed we can add more after the minimum roster is set and we compete the final 5 positions. Note the Kacy Rogers "deuce" is listed as a S on the team site: https://www.newyorkjets.com/team/players-roster/ ROSTER MINIMUMS: QB: 2 RB: 4 (includes FB) WR: 5 TE: 2 OL: 8 DL: 6 ILB: 3 OLB: 4 CB: 5 S: 4 K: 1 P: 1 LS: 1 PR/KR: 1 This is 47 spots with 6 more TBD (or 48 spots with 5 TBD if we agree to roster all 3 QBs).
I have good vibes about Middleton but he will have an uphill climb to make the team over Brooks, who the Jets signed to a 2 year deal this offseason. He would need to seriously outperform him in camp to get the slot. I think he's capable of it, which is why I chose Middleton as my final safety. According to Dick Semeni he (Middleton) "stood out" at the recent minicamp. Brooks would be a $1.2M caps savings if cut with a $700k dead money hit.
Miles has a torn meniscus and is out 3-4 months so he is not an option to be on the initial 53 man roster. That's why the Jets signed Wilcox.
Thanks. I had totally forgotten that about Miles. I remember now about Wilcox changing his mind about signing with the Niners and signing with the Jets at the last minute instead.
