hmy: Former Giant Gets Probation for Beating Son Hamilton Pleaded Guilty in Case AP Sports MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Aug. 11) - Retired New York Giants defensive tackle Keith Hamilton was sentenced Friday to three years probation for beating his son. The sentence was anticipated as part of a plea deal reached in April when Hamilton pleaded guilty to endangering the 12-year-old, admitting he had used corporal punishment. Police say Hamilton hit his son with an electric cord and surge protector, picked him up by his throat and elbowed him in the chest on Feb. 1 after seeing poor grades on a report card. "In his mind, there was a need for discipline, and he disciplined his child the way he was disciplined," said Hamilton's lawyer, Steven A. Varano. "This was not a case, in my opinion, of abuse or neglect." Hamilton, who went by the nickname "Hammer," retired in 2004 after spending 12 years in the NFL, all with the Giants .
Sound pretty abusive to me, even if the kid is not wanting for anything material or his basic needs aren't ignored (neglect). A swift kick in the ass is one thing, but c'mon.
If his parents did that to him, they deserve to strung up and beaten, right along with him. This is inexcusable...that poor boy
Ahh, you think this is a bad time for my "spare the rod and spoil the child" speech? mmm... maybe... (just kidding! :smile
