What a pity. Bengals were indeed testbed of a lot of revolutionary ideas - and the writer forgot to include what we now call West coast offense in the list. Ironically, Bill Walsh was also the assistant for Bengals at one time, and he learned under the legendary Paul Brown. He had his share of initial success with the QB named Virgil Carter, who didn't have that prototypical cannon of an arm, but had brain and accuracy. [Does that remind you of someone?] When Walsh took what he learned to the San Francisco - very well. The rest is history as we know it.
