Real pizza is round ( or a reasonable facsimile thereof) and has only cheeses that are, at least originally, products of Italy. If included, sausage, pepperoni and meatballs are sliced, not clumped.
Sicilian pie is awesome. Yeah, square and thick. Not a pepperoni fan, I won't eat any meatballs other than my own so I'd never get it on pie, but I prefer sausage out of the casing and crumbled, not sliced. Preferably with peppers and onions. Favorite pie is eggplant, but it's gotta be breaded and fried. None of that sautéed shit. Favorite non-traditional pie is prosciutto, fig jam, rosemary, parm regianno and fontina cheese. Had it at a restaurant in Elmsford, I make it now. Incredible. _
Concur. I also don't get buffalo chicken or BBQ chicken pizza. Just have some wings or BBQ chicken. Why put it on a pie? _
agreed on the Sicilian. disagree on the buffalo chicken pizza. as far as quirky tastes for pizza. i go for a white slice with meatballs.
Yay we get 2 BS foods threads! I agree, square pizza ain't pizza, unless it's Sicilian deep dish and even that I'm not a big fan of. There's only one type of pizza in my mind and that's Brooklyn style. Pizza chains are all garbage, the local authentic Brooklyn (Italian restaurant style) joints own them all. You know a pizza is good when you fold it in half to eat it. Thin, but not too thin crust that's crispy on the bottom and soft in the middle. I lived in Virginia for a while and compared to Jersey, the pizza, bagels and bread were all flat out garbage. But the fast food places (mcdonalds etc) all put out way better food. In NJ/NY area they just throw the shit together, but down south they actually take their time and do it right.
The last time I was back east I went to a pizza parlor around the corner from my parents' to begin to get my fix, not sure why but I was fixated on the Chicken Parm pizza I saw up on the menu. Got a large, brought it home and when I opened up the box I got kind of a surprise. I was expecting maybe a bunch of chunks of breaded chicken covered in sauce and cheese as a topping. Instead, there were 6 full chicken parms on top of the pizza, cooked into it. I can put down some pizza, but I tapped out after 2 slices, you could barely hold one because of the giant pieces of chicken on them.
I work in Connecticut and these philistines eat white clam pizza. I'll eat it but I won't admit I like it. _
Pay attention! This one is "Food BS" where you BS about food. The other is "BS Food" which is about "food" that is really BS.
I used to say the same thing about pizza being no good outside of the NY metro area, until I went to Chicago. Chicago Deep Dish pizza at Lou Malnati's and Gino's East is excellent non-foldable pizza. Really, really good- if you ever go to Chicago I definitely recommend it. They don't sell it by the slice, and you need to call ahead or wait an hour for them to make the pie, but it's easily worth it. (Just bring a friend to help you eat it.)
So speaking of New Haven, I have the distinct displeasure of having to drive to and from LI at least a couple times each year. Are those Mexican taco trucks along the water where 95 and 91 intersect any good?
I have never stopped at them. I only go to NH when I'm coming back from dropping off my daughter at school, it's not really close to work. _
