Here is a legitiment Offensive Tackle - a major upgrade over what we have now. http://www.cowboysgab.com/2008/02/19/cowboys-to-allow-tackle-adams-to-test-free-agent-market/ "It appears that the Cowboys will allow Pro Bowl left tackle Flozell Adams to test the free agent market after all. It was speculated that the Cowboys would franchise the tackle, but now the Dallas Morning News is reporting that the team will see what types of offers he gets, then respond with an offer of their own. The team wants to keep Adams, but are not going to break the bank for him at this point, and if he should get a whopper of an offer and leave, the team would insert Pat McQuistan in his place on the O-line. The team also will look to the draft with their two first round picks and could find a suitable replacement there if need be, or to the free agent market despite the fact there are not a lot of top notch tackles on the market this offseason." Put Adams and Faneca on our line and we have instant credibility and excitement going into next year.
You can never invest too much in your offensive line. The Giants were able to win the superbowl because the Pats could not protect Brady. Adams is getting on the older side but he has played extremely well for the Cowboys. I think he would easily transition to right tackle and would be a mauler. Adams would allow us to look at our defensive needs and skill position needs in the rest of free agency and the draft.
too expensive to play RT? I dont htink theres a figure you could throw at me that I would say is too much at this point for a real RT
...and this is precisely my concern about the Patriots. I fully expect the Pats to be VERY ACTIVE going after O-line talent. This is all the more reason why we have to be super aggressive and get to these people before the Pats do.
I tend to agree. Especially now that Andrews has been tagged and Gross is almost guaranteed to get tagged as well. If Adams can play RT, pay the man.
My feelings, too. He will be on the market. We have the $$$$ so let's do something meaningful with it. We should be able to outbid the competition as long as things don't get ridiculous.
That's what we said about Kareem Mackenzie and we still haven't replaced him while he is getting fitted for a Super Bowl ring. At this point I think we need to overpay a bit to fix the problems on the line, unless we want to continue at 4-12.
I agree. Losing McKensie was the beginning of the end of us having winning seasons. Our O-line has never been the same and consequently, neither has our running or passing attack. Imagine if we had still had McKensie on our line this past season. Things might have turned out differently....
I'd rather do the bullshit Red Sox - Yankees thing...especially since we're not even close to the Pats. And I doubt the Pats emphasize the OL *that* much. In the grand scheme of things, 18 games of dominance matters more than 1 game of looking meh. They'll probably look to upgrade RT or RG, but what they do should have no bearing on what we do right now.
Exactly... I would love for the Jets to spend the money, and bring in another T to help protect the QB... But at the same time, I just feel like this... We just had a REALLY BAD SEASON... With a young QB, what pro-bowler is gonna wanna leave a team like the Boys and come and play for the Jets? Its just gonna be really hard to get a players like this guy... 30 other teams are gonna be interested
True, but as long as he is taken care of financially, that usually, not always, counts for the most. We have to make a serious run at the guy.
Still, I don't think the Pats' O-line looked as dominating the last half of the season as they looked during the first 8 games, so it's not just one "meh" game we're talking about. The Giants damn near owned them the first time they played them. In other games, the Pats had trouble scoring and won by slimmer margins than they did in earlier games. I think Belichick will be shopping for some of the same players we're looking at, that's what I'm saying. So I think we should be on our toes, especially with the O-line. I don't see Belichick going into next season not tweaking his O-line, especially after everybody under the sun has been handed a blueprint by the Giants on how to ruffle Brady's feathers.
I haven't studied Adams. Would he be a better fit at LG or RT on this team and most importantly, how does he do when it comes to the run game?
the cowboys paid leonard davis(thats his name right?) a shit load of money and moved him from tackle to guard and he became a huge part of that line....lets spend some money on this guy
I think they're only about $10 million over the cap with moss, stallworth and their drafted rookies left to sign. They won't be able to outbid us.
I wouldnt be overly concerned... The Patriots have never dished out premier money on FA O-linemen(except to resign their own)..and frankly their OL was an elite unit all season up until the super bowl. Brady wasn't touched all year. The only 2 questionable spots on the line are the 2 Tackle spots. Light is tied into a long term deal so he isnt going anywhere..which leaves Kaczur at RT. Perhaps they make a run at a Flozell adams...but it wouldnt allow them much room elsewhere w/ their current cap situation. As for Adams as a Jet...Dallas has been trying to replace him at LT for years. He's a former pro bowler who'd be a decent stop gap..but not much else..and he's gonna command top money.
Well, that makes me feel better but they've also been able to acquire players recently without having to outbid anyone, simply because they are the Patriots. I just hope we don't get shafted trying to sign a guy like this. Adams is a guy who is already playing for a SB contender. Along comes two teams offering him the same money... one is the Jets and the other is the Patriots. Which one do you think he'll go with?
