I've been having a back and forth conversation with my pops the past few weeks. I think because we are 3-1 under Fitz we should stick with him despite those lame duck tosses he throws a few times a game. My rational is that Fitz knows his physical limitations and more or less takes what he defense gives him. My dads take is that Geno is younger and has a better arm but agrees he has way too many his mental miss ques. I know its been talked about in other forums I just want to see where the majority is by taking a vote/poll.
Fitz DOES NOT take what the defense gives him. That's why he keeps throwing into double and triple coverage and why he has 6 interceptions through 4 games. He hasn't had a single game without an interception and he could easily have twice as many interceptions as he has.
I think there are good arguments for both. But I would side with keeping Fitz. The bad for Fitz is his arm strength limits the offense, he misses many wide open WRs and he makes some terrible decisions. The last 3 weeks he has been pretty bad. He has thrown many bad passes that should have been intercepted. He probably should have 10-15 INTs right now rather than 6. But he has had some very fortunate luck. The good with Fitz is that he gets rid of the ball quickly, does not take many sacks Geno would take and he has taken advantage of many Red Zone opportunities to score TDs. I doubt that Geno would have been converting these red zone opportunities into this many TDs. I understand and respect the argument that Geno stretches the field, adds a dimension with his legs, could possibly thrive and improve in CG's offense, is a player with a much higher upside and future and to succeed in the playoffs we will likely need a better QB than a player with the limitations of Fitz as his limitations will make it hard to beat very good teams. But I don't think you can take a 3-1 team and remove the starting QB. That is a recipe for disaster and low player morale. But, if your going to make the change the ideal time to do it is during the bye week and before the Washington game.
My main issue is geno has not been given a chance, not at all. I just wanna touch on all few things. Put Fitz starting instead of geno last year, would he have done better? Not even close. Geno, a hurt decker, and a underused ivory were the only playmakers on the team last year. Defense wasn't half the defense it is today. Geno is the type of player that will take extreme chances when his back is completely against the wall. I blame a few losses last year on the coaching staff not geno. My only probable with geno is his maturity level seems to be very low. Hopefully this expierence has humbled him. Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
When a QB throws into double or triple coverage and one player tips it and another one intercepts the tipped ball that is on the QB because he shouldn't have been throwing into double and triple coverage (after all if the 2nd or 3rd defender weren't there then the interception wouldn't have happened). The only one that was thrown that wasn't on him was the one where the dlineman tipped it and a linebacker caught the tipped pass - all the others were either poor placement or throwing into double/triple coverage. He has also had a bunch of potential interceptions dropped.
Strictly talking the better QB? Not even close, Geno. Who should start against Washington New England, and so on? Fitz.
If this poll is a microcosm of what the fanbase really thinks about GSmith, it's quite the indicator both of how far Geno has fallen and how far he'll have to go to win back the confidence of the fanbase and more to the point, his teammates and CS. Geno dug himself one really big hole and I'm not so sure he'll recover from it here. It may be time for a change of venue for GSmith...
Fitz because we are 3-1 and you don't change such an important position when things are going well. If we were 1-3 then sure, but don't rock the boat at this stage.
