Jets -- Kirby Van Der Kamp (P, Iowa State) My theory is only one of the big 3 QBs will go before we pick creating a run on position players but most notably a run on WRs and CBs. I think the likelihood in round 1 is that Beckham will be long gone, Ebron gone, Zach Martin will be gone and so will at least 1 CB leaving the Jets with a choice of Cooks, whoever is left of Dennard/Fuller. But if Carr or Manziel also go before our pick it would certainly open up the talent pool for us at 18. I hope my mock is very wrong (and I am sure it mostly is) as it is the worst scenario for us in round one. In round two I see us passing on ASJ and going with the better character and safer player in Amaro. But there seems to be a lot of buzz on ASJ going to the Jets at 49 so he is quite possibly the pick. The player I would like to see us take at 49 if he is still there would be Garoppolo. I am not down on Geno but adding another young quality QB may only make both better and increase our chance of finding a QB of the future. I have my doubts on Landry still being there in round 3. I like the versatility of Richardson in round 4 and he seems like a good fit for the Jets needs. I have seen Reynolds dropping a lot in mocks. He seems to be a good fit for the center fielder FS that we need. In regards to the QB in round 6 take your pick there are so many possible options from Boyd, Renner, Shaw and a number of others. The picks I most regret are Cleveland's picks at 26 and 35. I doubt that Farmer will be able to resists Haslam's desire to make a splash and draft at QB early. Maybe out of fondness for Pettine I found myself resisting that temptation.
No offense meant, but I'd pretty much hate that draft because of the first two picks. The rest I kind of like, but hate the first two.
Not a Dennard fan. If we take him instead of Shazier , mosely , or cooks it will be a huge mistake, especially with Roby, Matthews, Bucannon, and Bridgewater still available... I do think Amaro goes before ASJ but hopefully another team makes that mistake. I'm not on the Skov bandwagon, could turn out to be a good player but not talented enough to make up for the injury issues. There are other backers I like better. Jarvis Landry just cannot be our big WR addition, he has great hands but is slow as fuck for the NFL. sorry to shit on this, but I think this draft is like a worst case scenario for the Jets.
Pretty much my thoughts on how things would play out tonight but I was pretty accurate on my mock up to the point of the Jets pick. The only two picks that I had off the board were Pryor and HCD. Overall its hard not to be happy with the Pryor pick. If ODB was there we would likely have taken or maybe if Fuller was still there. But other than those two Pryor seems to have been our target. Good for us he lasted. He should make an immediate impact. Not a great mock but pretty realistic. Especially compared to all the insane mocks predicting Manziel and Bridgewater in the top 10. What I learned from doing this mock was how little I know and it gave me much a better appreciation for some of the really well thought out mocks like WW85's. He and some of the others put some real effort and knowledge into those mocks.
