Not the most original of topics, I know, but ... Fireman Ed himself has said he's no bigger a Jets fan than the rest of us fellow bums. But he did a fan-tastic job representing us all during Sunday's game vs. the Jaguars. He patiently took pictures with a lot of people and was polite and engaging, to boot. He helped make my 6-month-old daughter's first Jets game a memorable experience. Cheers, Ed. :jets:
I'm not trying to a prick here, but whats the point of bringing your 6 month old to a football game? Unless you just can't find a babysitter it doesn't make sense.
Some people grow up and just like a team because of a QB or they saw them in the SB and they don't know any better. When Ed got what the game was about he picked the Jets instead of being a frontrunner. Not everyone is born a Jets fan. I grew up in a Giants house, and rooted for them without knowing who the hell the players were until I learned about Parcells and Vinny T. If you wanna hold that against him, go ahead, but its stupid to do so.
Good post. He was a Phins fan when he was 9 or 10 years old. I think you're allowed to change when you're that age. My kid changed from Giants to Jets at 10..when I told him to change or pack his stuff. He only chose the Giants to do the opposite of everything his brother did to annoy him. Anway, Ed is a really nice guy. He's a J!E!T!S fan. If he was a Dolphins fan he'd be in a Dolphins shirt cheering for them. Met him at the playoff game in NE and he stood there taking pics with anyone that asked. Anyone, with no attitude. Took a pic with my kid. He has that angry face when he cheers and that throws off a lot of people. Go up and talk to him and you will see.
Exactly, he serves a purpose to the franchise and I'm happy we have a live human leading the charges instead of someone in a mascot suit. And our "mascot" gets injured risking his life running into burning buildings. I think we can all appreciate that to some degree.
Made a post very similar to this in the 'Fireman Ed is a dick' thread from a few years ago, or whatever it was called. You haters out there would rather have someone in a plane suit. It's Johnny the Jet!! Zoom! Zoom! Start your Propellers! Can't think of too many teams that have just a regular guy that the TV constantly goes to. He's just gotta smile more, but it's kind of our fault. Over the years without prodding Jets fans sit on their hands alot. Especially when it gets cold. He gets pissed at us.
Don't understand the hate either...he does what he does and it gets our fan base to cheer...In all reality we should be cheering on our own but that doesnt seem to work in the new stadium with plenty of folks "sitting on their hands", so to say.
My son was a Cowboys fan until he was about 8 or 9. It was just because they were winning. Once he started going to Jets games with me he started wearing green and white and still does. As far as Ed goes, I can take it or leave it. He was in the parking lot over by 16H one time about 5 years ago and he seemed like a pretty nice guy, gave out autographs to little kids and posed for pics with them. I don't consider him a celebrity that I have to slobber all over but nor do I understand all the Ed hate. Anybody who can rile up the crowd gets my vote. Lord knows we need it.
Ed acts like a famous person, not a fan. We boo his butt when he asks us to stand up. F Him, jack ass. He sold out a long time ago selling the West Side stadium for Woody
I remember him selljg the WSS on TV ads, but how does this make him a sellout? The Jets recruited him to try and sell the WSS. BFD. In many ways, I wish the WSS had gone through. At least we'd have our own stadium to ourselves. The way things are now, we got a VERY expensive, overpriced stadium in the Meadowlands which is so spread out it's pathetic. The WSS would have been more vertical. I might have even purchased a PSL in that stadium, albreit it probably would have been WAY overpriced also. No, Fireman Ed is still okay. I don't have a provblem with him but I understand if you still do..
Yeah, I still don't like him. I used to like the guy who wore the Klecko Jersey in the other end zone that started the original chant. I have noticed this year that less people are getting into the jets chant, Ed looks a little pissed that the crowd is not responding to him. Either that or its Jet fans in general have not been as loud. Imagine if we won the next 3 games and come home 5-0 to play Miami on MNF. Damm, that would be something. I might stand for Ed, at least the first chant.
like him or dont like him there is no denying he DOES get the crowd going and on their feet. i remember a few years back when he was injuryed in a fire and didnt make it to any games, all the games seemed to be flat and we can never get a sold jets chant off. and what was said earlier, when it comes down to it the man is a hero, he risks his life everyday to save others he doesnt even know. from a firefighter family he will always be good in my book.
There's no shame to his game. Yep, he turned down Ochocinco's offer of playoff tix and travel expenses, and the game ball Rex game him is not on display in his home but at the Jets' complex in Florham Park. Ed's in the tradition of a singular face being attached to a team's entire fan base. Sure, there is marketing involved, but who among us hasn't spent good $ on a Jets jersey, hat, and memorabilia? I thanked him for taking a picture with me, that it was an experience I could cross off my Jet's fan bucket list, and he said it was his honor. Classy. :jets:
