Most critical draft in a decade, and this idiot comes in and spends a 9th overall pick on a CB. Not only did he spend this pick on a CB, but on a CB that is absolutely terrible. He spends his second pick in the first round on a defensive lineman, our deepest position. And then the icing on this idiocy cake: he drafts Geno effing Smith. "but, but, but, he won the draft! He got value!" This guy was booking hotels last year at this time.
Are you out of your mind? Cool down. It is his first season. Give the guy some time. He nailed it with Richardson. Let him have another year at least.
Everyone had Milliner as a top ten pick and we had to replace Revis, Richardson is probably going to be DROY and it only looks like a deep position because Snacks has been a revelation and with a QB you never know what you are going to get - turns out we blew it yet again but its always a crapshoot with QBs pretty much and he was a 2nd rounder so its not going to kill us going forward - he gets a pass until we see what he does this offseason to overhaul the offense. No-one could create a winning team given our starting point and cap position and you cannot count on your rookies to be difference makers in year 1.
Glad you're not an English teacher. "he nailed it with Richardson"........Richardson is great, but he is a luxury on a team that has no: WR, RB, QB, or Ss. It was idiocy to spend a first rounder on him, as good as he is.
C'mon we are not built to sweep the fins but we can go draft a QB, Bring in a vet and simms for a try out. Geno? Probably wasted 2nd rounder. I am ok with that. Geno was a gamble.
Wait for this, see what he does this off-season, he'll have money to play with, an see who he hires for a new HC, time will tell
He had no choice but to keep them for the draft. He came in in January and there's no way you can put a scouting department together for the upcoming draft.
dumbest thing i've ever seen. richardson is a luxury? in 2 years when our offense is rebuilt you'll be so happy we have richardson, he would of been the #1 overall pick if the draft happened today and we know what we know now. also idzik had no cap space. if you think he could of done anything this past offseason then you clearly don't know shit about football and should be embarrassed
The issue is going to be that QB pick. That pick is going to get Rex fired, and they're going to be drafting a QB again this upcoming draft.
I didn't even think once to blaze the GM for this afternoons shitshow. What a poor exhibit of insight by the OP. Milliner is shit, the receivers are shit and we have 2 very inexperienced, shit QB's. The GM is the least of our problems.
to be clear - I think he gets another offseason but we cannot go into another season without some proven at least mediocre QB on the roster, something we haven't had since Rex got here - no more ancient mentors that cannot play backing up unproven and shaky starters
That's not how you build a contender. You don't draft for need unless you are a piece or 2 away. Were the jets a piece or 2 away when Idzik came on? No. They had a turned over roster filled w/ young raw prospects & a few hold the fort veteran free agents.Additionally they were implementing their 3rd offensive scheme change in 3 years & had extremely limited cap space. Idzik was essentially starting from scratch. The proper way to build a complete long lasting roster w/ accountability established within your personnel dept is by drafting best player available. It may seem painful in the short term..but eventually the quality talent trickles down & over time holes get filled. I said before this season even began..if you're counting on rookies to improve this team over last year..you're kidding your self. Rookies take time.Sheldon Richardson is a rare exception. Idzik's real test starts this offseason. This team needs to completely rebuild of its offense. No more conservative 1990's football. This is a scoring league. This is a passing league. Idzik will have alot of ammo at his disposal. Significant cap space & draft picks in a draft class that is loaded w/ offensive skill. Lets see how it plays out.
Idzik inherited an absolute lousy team that had no depth or youth thanks to our old dumbass GM trading up every single year and giving up picks for veterans in the league. Best of all, Mike Tannebum fucked us over with the cap room so we could not even do anything in free agency to acquire talent. We took a bunch of handy down talent. We had a combine 7 picks between the 09 and 2010 drafts. SEVEN PICKS altogether in two drafts. You are suppose to come away with 7 guys in one draft alone.
Agreed on Geno. Worth a gamble. That said I'm so pissed we continue to ignore skill positions draft after draft... and it also we're not very good at picking outside of Def linemen.
