Calling it "the toughest one" of all his selections, Torre said that Rodriguez, Posada, Damon and Mike Mussina are all being considered as candidates for the honorary task." Every year on the last game (assuming they've clinched a spot), Torre let's a player manage. I really hope it's Posada or Alex this year though
Moose? Seriously? Damon could warrant an honorable mention, but Moose? Alex deserves it, with a strong second place showing by Posada. While Posada would have been an MVP if ARod didn't play the way he did, ARod DID play the way he did, and single-handedly carried the team on his back to keep them alive.
I'd let one of the rookie coach... like Joba or Shelly... we wouldn't be in the post season if not for the youth
Yeah, I was thinking that myself. Makes you wonder where Torre's mind is. Arod or Posada are the only two I can see and both were extremely important although Arod probably has the edge for the reason you say. If he doesn't get it then that will just be another slight of him by Torre and another thing to run him out of town..assuming Torre is still here that is.
Now that the division is lost, I have no problem with someone managing the last game. Keep the tradition alive. I say let Jorge be the Manager, A-Rod be bench coach, and Pettitte as Pitching Coach.
