For those of you who have not seen the video clip in honor of Wayne Chrebet on NY Jets TV on their website, I strongly reccomend you watch it. I can tell you, with him being my favorite player for so long, this video captures all of the reasons why. If you want to watch it click http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/multimedia/ , go to Jets 24/7, then Features, then Season 4: Wayne Chrebet. Enjoy.
I managed to get Chrebet's autograph on my Jets football last August at TC. I actually ran into him quite by accident. I was across the street at the Colisseum Deli at lunchtime ordering a Black Forest Something-Or-Other and who winds up standing next to me and ordering sandwich but Wayne Chrebet. I reluctantly asked him if he'd sign a ball for me even though he was on his lunch break... didn't want to interrupt his down time, but he came right out and said, "Sure... go get it." So I ran out to my Tahoe and grabbed the ball and pen and brought it back inside. Wayne's a real gentleman.
What an amazing video. I'm gonna miss the guy, but I think its only a matter of time before he's back on the sidelines with a whistle.
Wow. Fantastic video. Chrebet is a classy guy. And he WILL be a coach/asst. on some level. I wish him the best of luck.
Thanks for the heads up about the video. Great player... one of my all time favorites. They have another video on another great Jets player, Joe Klecko. It was an honor to see both of these guys play. I think that tehy are cut from the same cloth.
Wayne is one of my favorite players ever. One time i was at training camp when i was younger and he came out gave autographs, my friend showd up late with his dad (whos a friggin pyscho) so i stayed away from them. Cherbet said he'd sign somthing for them when he came back out from lunch..he eventually came out and must have forgot and got on a golf cart and started driving away. My friends dad then chased the golf cart down and almost threw cherbet off of it. They then proceeded to get into a wrestling match on the pavement where security came flying in and pepper sprayed my friends dad. Meanwhile i was in the backround laughing my ass off. Sorry had to share the story.
Great guy but No. Shouldn't be. Watch some Wesley Walker/Al Toon/Freeman McNeil Videos and you'd know why. There are a few more guys deserving the retirement # more than Wayne.
I'm not just talking about the heart and respect factor. Look at his stats, he is among the franchise leaders. I also ackowledge the fact that the franchise turnaround was right on par with his arrival. I also believe McNeil's number should also be retired.
See my hero? I've always wanted to meet Wayne but never had the chance. Does anyone know if he does any appearences? Also, can anyone make that video of highlights downloadable? I wanna keep that forever.
