Well, this is possibly me last one, but definately the final 4 rounder. I'll be happy to elaborate on any of my picks and the reasons behind them... I'd like to hear feedback on picks other than just the Jets if possible (Good or bad)... I think I will put up another thread of a couple Jets draft possibilites tommorrow, but no more big drafts like this one..... It includes one trade that is a MUST in this IMO. Bolded picks are surprises for one reason or another and I will be adding them soon. TRADES - Tampa Bay trades #4, #35 & 2008 selection to Detroit for #2 DRAFT ROUND 1 1. Dude, again... great mock. If things went down that way I think it would be perfect. Especially for us (and the giants too) you do a great job of addressing needs while not reaching.
Great Mock. I just have one question. Do you really think that Green Bay would pass on Marshawn Lynch to take Olsen and then take Irons in Round 2? I think GB needs a feature back and not a 3rd down back like Irons.
I think you are right on with Johnson being the #2 pick if Oakland doesn't take him. Here is what I think could really happen though. Oakland or Detroit may take Johnson with their pick and then trade him to TB for not only the #4 pick but also a player and another 1st day pick. Not sure what round. That would still let Oakland get Russell or Quinn plus pick up a player and an extra pick. It would let Detroit still get Adams plus another player and pick. I really believe this is Oakland's intention and why they won't negotiate with anybody yet. They might be able to get Simms or one of TBs other QBs too. If they do, then they take Joe Thomas and start rebuilding their offensive line. The wildcard in this is Atlanta. Rumors are that the owner wants Johnson at any cost. Atlanta is loaded with picks. They could get into the middle of it either before or during the draft. After the first 4 picks I see people trying like hell to bail out of the first round. The problem is nobody will want to move up so for sure every pick will take the full 15 minutes...haha.
Thanks... I feel every pick is realistic too... Yes. Marshawn Lynch is the consensus, but he has seen his stock fall for a few reasons, one being "character" issues, which I'm not aware of. They say that they like Morency/Herron, but that is a smokescreen and BS. Marshawn Lynch isn't near the 16th best player in the draft. Olsen will help in their short-intermediate passing game. They will likely run a RBBC system, which is VERY common anymore. Theirs will include 3 solid backs...
Let me start by saying if the Jets draft Spencer I would be more than satisfied. But if Harrell or Blalock are still there I would rather see them go for a big pig in the first. Now let me also temper that by saying ... I think Harrell comes off the board before Branch. Love the second round ... Beekman grew up 20 minutes from where I lived as a kid. I work with a guy whose wife was one of Beekmans teachers. Said he has a damn good head on his shoulders, smart as hell. Jackson is a player .. might be better as a safty then corner though. He is tough against the run & likes to hit. Very smart player who knows how to read the action. Third round I think Laurent Robinson might be a bit of a reach in the third I thought he was a 5th to 6th round pick. I notice you have Brandon Siler still on the board when the Jets pick. Kids a hell of a run stuffer & I have him rated #2 for ILB. Also Jonathon Wade is still there on your board .. another kid that should be considered even if another corner has been drafted. If you want a WR in the third - David Clowney (according to your board) is still there. He can play the slot & stretch the field. Dude I give ya major props for taking the time to do this ... having to think for 32 teams & trying to fill their needs/desires is an undertaking. Please don't take any offense to the comments I made ... I am sure we all have differing opinions (thats why I love the draft)!!!
Thanks for the insightful feedback. That's a bold statement that Harrell comes ahead of Branch. I was considering having Branch drop to #21 to Denver, but I couldn't pull myself to have St. Louis pass on him. As for Spencer, the best way to improve our secondary is to improve our pass-rush. Since it looks like Barton has, at most, one more season with the Jets, we should prepare for Victor Hobson to eventually move inside. Spencer should at least start as a situational pass-rusher for us. Blalock would also be a very good pick. I'm split on the two. Beekman is our type of guy IMO. Smart, overachieving and productive. He's just the type for the Jets. Tanard Jackson might make a better a FS, I agree there, but what gave me the idea was that we supposedley had him in for a few visits. We need a physical CB opposite Dyson, who isn't a big-time hitter. He'd make a great compliment. Laurent Robinson is a good sleeper for us, David Clowney could work too. So could Brandon Myles from WVU... Just a taller, speed guy. Robinson is a great sleeper with 4.38ish speed and about 6-2 200. The draft never goes how we think as there are plenty of smaller school guys that slip into the picture earlier than expected. Siler could come off much earlier. I can make the case for that. Jonathan Wade for now is more of a track guy in a football uniform. He could become something special, but he's a less physical guy. He could easily go 2nd, but the guys ahead of him are more proven that he. Once I typed out where every team picks from 1-140, which took at least 15-20 minutes, it wasn't bad. I have a list of players by position in a Word Document copied and pasted from Foxsports.com and highlight the guys that have been taken. I also put together a position needs for each team, which I sometimes refer to. That was all done over a month ago. As for this mock itself, I flew by it in under an hour. I was going to go on into Round 5, but I can't keep up with what team took who and when... Surprsingly, this all isn't time consuming and if I can put aside about 15-30 minutes/day to work on draft related stuff, which I can normally do, it works out very well. Thanks again for the feedback/read.
