http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-jets-cotchery&prov=ap&type=lgns Adding some speed definately can't hurt. This guy could be a solid contributor for us for years to come
J-Co.....Soo much better then crotch refrences.. Nice article....He's quickly, and quietly, making everyone pay attention to him. J-Co is making Defenses change the game plans a little bit now...good job.
oh yes a few more games and coordinators will realize they just can't key on coles....although coles is fast enough to get open regardless... and yeah jco is 100x better then the names we were coming up with here.
I've been watiting for him to come around. He's doing a great job this year. Now hopefully they'll update the Madden rosters and make him a 99 overall
J-Co was the first thing I thoguth about, too, when I read it. If that is what the team members call him, it sounds good to me, and yes, the other references were not a good fit for somebody who is obviously an important part of this team.
Heading into the season everyone said our WRs would be a weakness... I love how Coles and Cotchery have so far become a great duo. Let's hope they keep it up.
My in-laws are from Durham and I watched Cotchery (and Phillip Rivers) career at NC State with much interest. Jerricho was a beast for the Wolfpack. He caught everything thrown to him and was super tough going over the middle and after the catch. I was really happy when the Jets drafted him. But Edwards never did anything with him. He would praise Cotchery in training camp and forget about him during the season. Mangini saw this guy's potential and got him on the field and look at the results so far.
I am glad that guys like J-Co (Good Nick), and CP are having a good start to the season. Guys are coming out of nowhere to be playmakers for us. I dont think you would have seen a charge like this out of these guys from our prevous CS. :/ Good article.
Nope, you know Jmac would still be starting if Herm will still here. I'm not a Herm hater like most on this board, but he has a few glaring weaknesses and one of those weaknesses being he tendency to start only the proven vet w/o letting the draft picks develop. I'm very happy with how are new CS is starting out.
This is a critical difference, IMO, over last year. Mangini isn't afraid to try something off the wall... like playing Brad Smith at QB in the preseason game and playing Clemens as much as he did, to give him some NFL experience. There isn't anything that should surprise us this season coming from our CS... even inserting Clemens in a game in which we have might have a substantial lead (garbage time), to get him further acclimated and give Chad a break. The most innovative thing you ever saw coming from Edwards was the infamous and ill-fated Lamont Jordan pass, one of the few times the poor bastard was ever able to even take the field much less get many carries.
Herm never had confidence in Cotcherry - or he'd have played more. Bradway said often he liked him as a 3rd WR - but never a starter. I agree the added speed is the biggest improvement.
Herm didn't have confidence in a lot of his depth on the team. So much potential talent was wasted, under-utilized, and unevaluated that IMO, contributed largely to his fairlure here in NY.
let's not start sucking each other off just yet (Pulp Fiction reference?), as it's still early... but there were a handful of us who kept telling the doubters around here about Cotchery; we would spew stats from NC St., how he broke Holt's records, how he's strong and plays with will that excedes physical abilities (though, he clearly possesses those too). and we said the only thing restraining him was Herm. well now that he's been given a chance, he's made us look much better. so, thanks Cotch. haha. in all seriousness, i'm glad he's been given a chance and has emerged. he won't a real threat in the traditional sense, but he will make plays and force opposing D's to focus on him, not just Coles. now, if Brad Smith lives up to the gamebreaking potential he seemingly has, then we'll have some nice weapons at WR. cheers
oh, one thing i wanted to mention that the article reminded me of: incredible alertness by Cotchery, but i give the refs kudos for not blowing that play dead; because (unless the rule was changed), if they just assumed he was down and blew the whistle, he wouldn't have scored, even if he ran to the endzone because the play would have been blown dead (correct?). so yeah, nice alertness by both Cotchery and the refs. cheers
haha. I guess Bradway and Herm. but I don't see the use in drafting talented players if you're not going to use them. it's like buying milk when you're lactose-intolerant. cheers
great article...i liked cotch when he was catching passes at NC state for phillip rivers...mostly because of his name, but he was damn good
