I understand the fustration we all feel as fans of our Beloved Jets and wanted to see if we could get an honest assessment of the Fans feelings on the direction the FO should take.
I really hope the FO and ownership realize what needs to be done, and that's a true rebuild focusing on the draft and acquiring young players in FA. Throwing cash around resulting in a nothing cycle has gotten us nowhere. I understand some fans are impatient and it's a tough market in NY, but we've been doing the same shit over and over for the last 20 years. Time to take a different approach, ignore the noise. If some jackass rents a billboard calling for someone to be fired, fucking IGNORE it.
Just going to preface my vote by saying that I think management should not be worrying about what the fans think as they move forward. The only thing that should matter is getting the Jets to a state of consistent excellence - at which points the fans will all love whatever decisions management chooses to take.
A true rebuild and build primarily through the draft with key FA additions too. Now is their window to get this franchise on proper footing. Mac should be the busiest guy in the building right now.
A rebuild doesn't mean the team can't be fun or compete on the field. The Jets still have some good players and are starting to build a young nucleus. The NFL is built for parity. If the Jets have a solid draft and find a QB, they can be in rebuild mode and still go (6-10) to (8-8) having competitive games with the best teams in the NFL. I don't buy the team going (1-15) to (4-12) even in a rebuild. If they do: Bowles and his staff should be fired. They can easily take a step forward in 2017 while rebuilding.
Just compete. Last year, was pathetic with the blow outs- when the team was actually trying to win. If the Jets show that they are improving, and Bowles shows he is improving in situational situations, clock management etc, I'd be satisfied
Other: Mostly build through the draft, as well as sprinkling in some shrewd moves through free agency and the trade market.
We need a mix of younger vets and draft picks...not guys with their best football behind them. GET A FRANCHISE QB either this year or next... after that everything else falls into place
Today is day 2 of FA and I am blown away by the young and relatively low cost signings Wow ...no FA QB breaking the bank Me thinks its a later draft round QB signing...that would be totally out of character to have 3 kids compete but if it plays out that way ...good
I selected other just because I don't think Woody would let the team Tank that long and could force some type of "put butts in the seats" signing. Stay out of it Woody! Frankly in a perfect world, as long as half of the 17' draft picks pan out (While being creative and adding additional picks and/or players) and we clean up a high amount of cap space to make good signings in the 18' off season, I think we can be competitive in the 18'-19' season. It would be a younger different looking team. Though we need at least a game managing QB we can count on being the starter each year .. he doesn't have to be Pro Bowl Level as many a super bowl has been won without a star QB, he just needs to be efficient maybe even capable of an occasional hot streak. Hopefully that will be Hack, and just maybe they will let him try and prove it in the last quarter of the 17' season. If he is not the guy then we need one in 18' one way or another. IMO .. you can't really put a time stamp on it as we could be like lots of NFL teams that seemed to rebuild for nearly a decade. To me it all depends on your drafting as it allows you to use the money saved on signing a few big name players including a QB(if not homegrown or drafted) or a handful of players that complete your schemes. Without good drafting then you end up doing it mostly through free agency making your team older. If Mac doesn't hit in the next two drafts we can all be having this type of chat again if the next GM doesn't come through. Get us out of this cycle or get us some coaches that can win with whoever they put on the field.
The problem with this rebuilding thing is Todd Bowles....You dont start rebuilding in year three when you have a coach who will most likely be fired after we go 3-13.Then a new coach comes in with a new vision and we are rebuilding yet again.
My opinion and vote is that building through the draft is the best way to build a winning team. Do I actually care how they build this winning team? no not really... As any NFL fan has heard like a broken record "winning solves everything". That said, i would like to have a sustainable winning culture and I just don't see that happening through FA.
I can take a rebuild if it is a hustling never give up attitude on the part of the young players, I want the coach to also rebuild from poor sideline decisions and standing like a statue when players screw up, missed assignments penalties cannot be tolerated. If I see progress in these players consistent from day one to the last game of the year I can take any record. If I have to witness lack of hustle dogging it not wanting to tackle, running out of bounds when you don't have to that is not rebuilding it is more of the same with younger players.
Agreed. I should have added that to my post. Part of the cycle. Changing coaches could mean different schemes which in term equals needing different players. I can see Woody sticking with both Mac AND Bowles through the end of the 18' season. This as much as some might hate will at least will keep the defensive scheme and players the same. Though it won't help the QB if he needs to learn a new offense every year so Hopefully that ends this year. I am from the school where when you start fresh and rebuild it means New Everything with the GM calling the shots and getting a new coach and QB .. given Mac and Bowles are equals .. this will actually be their first rebuild where now most of the players will be "their guys". To me .. they should get a complete chance before they are written off. I mean Comon what do we have to lose, it's not like we are a known super bowl winning franchise. Let this regime either succeed or fail without a doubt as ripping the page out, crumbling it up and throwing it in the garbage pail every year is way worse as the team will never have an identity. If Mac does a good job drafting and we get the talent then we will know Bowles is an issue if we are not winning. We can all chat then if it happens. Right now I think Woody needs to stick with these two for many reasons, another being who will want to come coach here knowing you will always have one foot out the door.
Todd Bowles is gonna take Hack and Petty out shrimpin this summer. Whoever is the best shrimper gets the first start in preseason.
I really think that's what Bowles should be Judged on next season. How prepared are the players and how much effort are they giving. Wins and losses won't tell the whole story next season.
Where is the option to clear as much cap room as possible and then fire the idiot GM and brain dead coach and hire people who for once will know how to spend that money? I'm for that one.
I agree to an extent. This rebuild should have begun in year 1 not 3, and big FA signings 2 years ago does not equal rebuilding. The team crumbled last year and between, age, injury, being over the cap there wasn't much choice but to begin rebuilding the team. Bowles , as much as I hate to say this, should be given 2 more seasons unless he looses the locker room again. We are a very unappealing franchise right now with the coaching carousel we have had for so long. Show some stability and assemble a young talented roster and hopefully the franchise looks much more inviting to a quality head coach come 2019
