Don't laugh, they are setting the gauge of 1st round contracts signed after them. We could get screwed because they are stupid.

At least we can use the "he's a QB" argument. Worked for Quinn.

Arthur Blank just finished voting 'in favour' of opting out of the current CBA...yet, with contracts like the one he just gave M.Ryan...he's contributing to the problem ....what a hypocrite.

Chris Long must be licking his chops...the Falcons just bent over the Rams big time.

Every owner opted out of the CBA. And by signing Ryan this early, Blank just proved he's 10x smarter than Diaper-pants Davis.

Gholston should get something like a 6 year deal between 40-45 million.

I don't see how ANY team can guarantee that much money to a rookie...that's 34 million bucks that they HAVE to give him even if he is a complete failure in a few years.

this is just rediculous, way more money overall than the #1 pick got, so the Phins got one hell of a bargin when compared to Ryans contract.

Absolutely. I love watching NFL Network about this stuff and Rich Eisen just try with every ounce of effort to not snap about rookie contracts. It's so obvious he thinks it's ridiculous as well.

With the cap rising and perhaps disappearing this will become the norm. Gholston won't have a contract like this. He'll get 20+ guaranteed for under $45M. Ryan is a QB and he is essentially the future, so he gets more.

I'm not shocked he got this much.

The QB picked first in '07 gets $30 mil guaranteed and the QB picked fourth in '08 gets over $34 mil guaranteed? Those Falcons really drive a hard bargain!

At the very least. Bad negotiating by Blank and company.

You obviously want the guy in camp but a contract negotiation is judged on money too. What was Ryan's leverage to get a significant raise over the guy who was picked first last year? I don't understand what the Falcons were thinking...
