Bwahahaha the Nationals have offered Mark Texiera an 8 year 160 million dollar contract. If he signs with Washington I'll become a Nationals fan.....
If he signs with them, I'd lose all respect for him. I sincerly doubt he will, as the BoSox can offer a similar contract with far far higher chances to win.
The Nationals always try to appear they're in the running for a major FA, but then come up short. No way he goes there.
Why? He's from the DC/Baltimore area, and has stated he would like to play close to home. Now, if the Sox offer more money, he'll follow that (just like Sabathia did)... but if the offers are similar, that's when they start considering the other factors.
He's not going to the Nationals. Boras said as much, indirectly of course, a few minutes ago. Regional. Not local, regional. Boston would certainly be considered in the region. Here's the big one. He made it a point to say he wanted to go to a winner, which neither Washington or Baltimore is close to being. If the offers are close, which they will be, he's not going to Washington. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2008/12/boras_speaks_so.html
Because as devil stated, Teix and Boras have stated winning is priority #1. Washington isn't a winner, and they won't be for a long long long time.
While I think he will sign with the Sox or Angels lets be honest the guy is going to the place that gives him the best deal. They can blabber all they want about a winner but 90% of the guys are going where they have the best contract.
If it's say 8/$176 from Washington and 8/$160 from Boston, Washington has no chance. To get him to go to a team that has more of a chance at losing 100+ games than of finishing .500 every year the offer is going to have to blow all the others completely away, which they aren't going to be able to do. Bowden loves Dunn anyway and he'll be a lot cheaper. If Washington is going to get a power bat, it will be Dunn.
Here's the latest on Teixeira, from about 5 minutes ago... http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8926070/Source:-Red-Sox-getting-closer-to-Teixeira-deal It's not much, but I like it.
at which point the yanks jump in with an 8 year 180 mill offer. or the way theyre doing things this offseason 14 year 325 mill
hey new york is only 3 hours away from baltimore so that is regional. Omar get this guy. our bullpen was part of our collapse. fixed our offense was the other part. Get Tex trade delgado
I like this move by the nats, They are forcing the big guys to really step up to get him, They have to over pay to attract the big players. It's nice to see them try. After spending 160mil on CC do you think the yanks can still afford him after this offer? I think he will land in Boston, for slightly less than the nats offer.
^ Very possible. But much like others question Gammons, Edes, and McAdam as Red Sox homers, I do much the same with Heyman.
