Not counting fighting for draft position (alas poor Trevor...) which year was the last time you were excited for the last game of the season and what was driving that excitement?
The final game in the old Giants Stadium. Jets vs Bengals, it was freezing cold and Brad Smith went off that game. Thats the last final good game of the season.
2015, which of course was yet anther epic fail. Win and in, lose and out game against Rex Ryan and the (at the time) putrid and depleted Bills. Fitzmagic turned into Fitztragic, and the team was flat from the very start.
I can't remember that FAR back!!! The only thing I'm happy about now is that this travesty of a dumpster fire is now finally being put to bed and I can switch to watching REAL football teams play REAL football.
There were also bitter divorces peppered in. Speaking of which, I wish I could divorce the Jets and get massive alimony payments from Woody Johnson. I know he's married, but there's plenty of bigamists in this country, so . . .
I look forward to that final game every season because it means the pain can finally begin to heal until September
Well, we get to see a few ex Jets that this incompetent CS got nothing out of and let go have a resurgence in their careers under better coaching. Happy to see a few well coached teams for a change.
Last time I was even remotely excited for a Jets finale was actually not that long ago: January 3, 2021. The excitement and anticipation of knowing it was the last game of the Gase Era was just about as close to the excitement of reaching a Super Bowl as this franchise is ever going to get.
I am excited for this game. Probably won’t watch the whole thing but, I finally figured out how to deal with the football season going forward…and it’s all due to being a disaffected season ticket holder. I will sell all the games up to 2nd week in November so I won’t miss the Fall Striped Bass and Bluefin Tuna run. Then I will pick a few games to tailgate with my buddies at 15J. Fuck this team, fuck the Jets…no longer drinking your Kool Aid Woody Johnson and your NFL monopoly buddies. I’M FREE!!!
My wife and I are going to watch it at our local sports bar and we'll be wearing our jerseys. It's a fun atmosphere and we get a lot of sympathy from the locals. The bar also gives out raffle tickets and at the end of the 1pm games they draw a ticket and the winner gets a jersey of their choice. My wife won it 3 weeks ago. She ordered a black #95.
I will of course be rooting for the Jets to beat Bill Belicheck in what is his most likely last game as New England's coach (per the ravenous sports writers). It would be a boost seeing the Jets try with all their might, and for Bill to fall short in a close hard fought game. Alas, bittersweet though, as he has ben a thorn in our side like no other coach, and the level of play he made us elevate to over the years was unparalleled...
