Ex-Broncos receiver Marshall was nearly a New York Jet.

I find it interesting we were gonna give up the first rounder for him.

Sucks to know that we could've had him if we could've came up with a number that he liked. But at the end of the day I'm happier we got Holmes for a 5th. Almost as much upside as Marshall at a much better cost.

If this is true, its possible that the Dolphins could have ended up with Holmes when he came available. I'm glad we got Holmes, but would have rather seen Marshall go to the NFC somewhere. I disagree with Doogstein that Holmes has almost as much upside. I think Marshall is clearly a better receiver than Holmes. Holmes is a damn good one too though. Hopefully our criminal plays better.:metal:

Why? He is certainly better than any other receiver in the draft and at 45 million it's not much more than first round money anyway. At 29 it's a hell of a lot closer to a 2nd round pick than a meaningful 1st.

I was a supporter of getting Marshall.....and posted as such on the board.

But in retrospect...i'm glad we still have our 1st and 2nd round picks, and still managed to land a #1 Wideout (Holmes).

I think the Jets came out of this smelling like a rose.

IMO- Holmes has more to prove now that he was thrown away by the Steelers. I like our move!

I thought we always balked at the pick given up, not the price tag.

Either way I will gladly take Holmes for a 5th.

the 29th overall pick does not make 45 million over 4 years on his rookie contract

I would have been pissed if that happened and then some other team got Holmes for a 5th

We have too many guys to re-sign to be doling out that type of contract for Marshall.

this is no surprise, but i'm glad we got holmes for a 5th rounder, and we still have our 1st rd pick.

thats gives us a 2 for 1, rather than the other way around.

Edwards, Holmes, Cotch > Marshall, Bess ?

I think we'll be fine and w/o anything long term for Holmes he needs to go out and earn his next contract as does Edwards. Throw in the fact that we already made a splash with Cro and LT I'd say our offseason has been much better then Miami's and we improved our team much more then anybody in the division.

i would have loved to get marshall but i can't think of anyone who needs to resigned after the season that i would want to sacrifice for him. i can live with holmes, especially for only a 5th rounder, but marshall is just on another planet. the good thing is the dolphins have him and some other guys that they are vastly overrating because of the jersey that they wear.

just the fact that tanny was willing to surrender a 1st round pic and was negotiating a contract for marshall BUT tanny did not sell the farm for him shows great restraint on tanny's part.

to be soooooo close but still keeping it fiscally responsible says volumes about how tanny is looking ahead towards all those big contracts looming large.

Marshall would have been great to have but how would he have worked with Edwards and Sanchez? Also if there is any chance to sign Edwards and Holmes we'll come out way ahead. I also think Tanny's #29 will move up to the top 20, so we have the best deal now.

No, I know that but the 29th pick is also not proven by a long shot..for that matter neither is the 6th as we all have seen and he got 40 million. Just saying the money isnt all that different to be a pro bowler that is still only 26.
