This guy is a clear hater, and I am one that believes that Young will be a bust for years before he catches any type of success in the NFL whatsoever.
Yes, I certainly would. All Whitlock ever does is write up garbage stories such as this, creating controversy where there is none so people will be forced to read his awful opinions on things. Yeah, Young has a real problem getting prepared... the fact that he went from barely top 40 QB to maybe the best player in the country over the course of one offseason says nothing for his work ethic, but his posse size does. Another home run there Whitlock.
A little over the top, but it does bring up lots of good points. Young is a guy that needs to fall in the right situation on a team with lots of patience. A HUGE part of his success was his ability to scramble, which is giong to do little for him in the NFL. In the meantime, a guy who associates with guys named "Black" needs to be kept occupied and busy, so that he doesn't fall into the wrong kind of shady business. It amazes me that people are so high on this guy. Andre Ware looked great in college, and so did Michael Vick. He is way too much of an athlete playing quarterback for me, and he lacks the maturity of a McNair or McNabb. While the article is harsh, you can't dismiss the questions Whitlock raises. -X-
I'm so glad Whitlock wrote that. If anyone else had written that he would be branded a racist. Whitlock always has an eye on race, so you know he wrote what alot of people are thinking behind the scenes, but can't say. The first red flag for me on Young was the agent he hired. It reminded me of when Ricky Williams hired Master P. At best he would be Vick and I'm not sure if Vick is a Top 10 NFL QB. Maybe not Top 15. I truly think Whitlock wrote that as a wakeup call, I hope the kid had his phone on.
The ability to scramble was, and will be a big part of his game, that's not going to change. I wouldn't say it'll do little for him in the NFL though, because based on what I've seen out of Vince, he knows when he needs to stay in the pocket and when he has to move. Most athletic QBs have no idea what the difference is, and that's what kills them when they get to the NFL. Vick's problem is that he not only came into the league without it, but he also was very, VERY poorly coached his entire career. Put any raw QB in an offense they don't fit and they won't have much success either. As for maturity, I don't know about this whole business Whitlock's bringing up; but I certainly won't rip Vince for it with just this basic knowledge. Whitlock did whatever in his power he could to make Vince and his crew look like complete fools, because he's just trying to stir up controversy, like he always does (remember the America is racist because they aren't rooting hard enough for team America basketball?).
When ESPN writers need an article and have nothing to write about they write about useless shit like this. He's obviously just looking at his workouts and not the fact that he single handedly beat Michigan and USC in the Rose Bowl in back to back seasons.
It is a little over the top, but certainly has key points... Vince does need to be careful with his oppurtunity.
It has no key points. The articles says how Vince Young isn't ready for the NFL because of his choice of agent. He could have Bilbo the Clown as his agent and he still will be the 2nd or 3rd QB off the board.
Agreed... the only difference is that Bilbo the Clown would have gotten him a 45 year contract worth 2.5 thousand red noses and 10 thousand animal balloons a year.
Well, actually it has some great points. When you have an entourage of wannabe rap stars, and you hire your uncle as your agent, and you crap your pants on the Wonderlic test, it makes teams think "what is this guy going to screw up next?" Teams might look at Vince Young, think "this guy is going to hold out," or "this guys friends will get him in trouble/distract him." It's a pretty viable argument for anyone who has watched scores of guys like this come into the league and pass out of it. Think Michael Westbrook and his supercar that he bought upon or before being drafted. His head was never in the game. Teams want a leader and a role model playing quarterback, a Donovan McNabb type. They don't want a guy who's all about the lifestyle, particularly when he's illiterate. Signs of that kind of behavior are disconcerting, and he may drop. -X-
