Jets favor Leinart over Ferguson April 26, 2006 By Todd McShay ESPN, Scouts Inc. According to a source, the Jets are far more interested in USC quarterback Matt Leinart than they are leading people to believe. They have attempted to play it cool recently, but the organization came to a near consensus that Leinart is the top quarterback prospect after working out all three of the top prospects (Leinart plus Texas' Vince Young and Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler) during a six-day span more than a week ago. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Alot of mixed messages in the past weeks, but perhaps the Cutler caravan visit by the Jets was a smoke screen. My projected mock top 5 1. Bush (Texans) 2. Williams (Saints) 3. Young (Titans) 4. Leinart (Jets) The Jets Rest: 29. McNeil (M. Williams in one of his interviews was asked toughest OL faced in college - hands down Mcneil from Auburn. Enough said) 35. Best available remaining of Safety (Allen), OLB (Carpenter), or RB (Addai) 3rd/4th/and Beyond round: O-line depth (Trueblood, Eislinger), CB depth, TE, and FB (Bernstein) :jets:
I think we can grab McNeil with the 35... address RB with 29 if anything... I would rather get Mangold tho. By the way... congrats on not making an ass outta yourself with your first post
My picks for the Jets first 3 are 1. Mario Williams DE 1a. Vernon Davis TE Jets 29th pick 2. Nick Mangold C 2a. Marcus McNeil OT Jets 35th pick 3. Eric Winston OT 3a. Bobby Carpenter OLB There are so many good linemen there is no way we can mess this up... Our problems will be finding another OLB if Carpenter or Greenway are gone... That is my biggest concern.... Besides a playmaker on offense I don't know after that I feel the Jets are gonna come out smelling like Roses after all is said and done..... RB's are kinda thin this year, but I would rather have two Offensive Tackles with picks 29 and 35 or One Offensive Linemen and a Defensive player.... I can live with Curtis one more year even though I would rather not, but there aren't many good catching RBs in this draft...
My head is going to explode. The Jets are doing a good job concealing who they are really targeting with the 4th pick. First it was consensus D'brick or Mario, then talks about Cutler or Vernon Davis, now its Leinart. The Jets FO is doing a good job IMHO in this poker game that is the NFL Draft.:finssuck:
I agree Mangold is a stud. His interview at the combine shows he is a smart and seemingly good charcter guy. My thought here is that Teague is likely a more sure starter then Clements (atleast until he proves he can be a healthy starter), so OT before C. Addai at 29, and OT at 35 would also work, but believe they are going to be more concerned about protecting that newly minted QB then finding additions/replacements to C. Martin/C. Houstan. Also look for the Jets to get accomplished blockers at non O-line positions, ie. RB-Addai/FB-Bernstein/TE-Fasano/WR, since their blocking pick-ups at all positions was horrendous last year.
Leinart, Best RB Avail. McNeil would be a great draft. Leinart, Mangold, Addai would be solid also. Something tells me however, we are going to end up with Ferguson.
There are maybe two or three OL who might play better than Ferguson on the Pro Level... Not to say Ferguson won't be good, but if not for some injuries to some guys, some OL would be projected even higher than they are now in this draft......
This is how mcshay's ESPN draft is going 4: D'Brick 29: Laurence Maroney 35: Croyle I like the first two picks, but i HATE the third pick. Croyle is overrated IMO and is not worth a high second round pick.
I dont know why... hes not the same position or anything but when I think of Ferguson... i think of Drob... weird? Yes....
Honestly, I would be shocked if we go OT at 4. There are plenty of shots at high quality OT at 29 and 35, and even at round 3. It comes down to this, if the JETS staff: 1) really were impressed in their review of Leinart last week, 2) feel Leinart is the #1 QB on the Board, and 3) he is available at 4 - it will be the quickest decision we will see on Saturday. The biggest risk to the JETS with Leinart at 4, is if someone trades up to 2 and takes Leinart, or the Titans are in-fact using the "we like Young" as a smokescreen so no one tries to move-up ahead of them at 2. Unfortunately, I think both scenarios are very likely here.
The funny thing is NO-one wants to draft an OT that high and the teams with the real need are ourselves , Texas and N.O , so the question is if we don't sign him I wonder where he will land.
4 - Mario Williams - DE - North Carolina State 29 - Eric Winston - RT - Miami 35 - Gabriel Watson - NT - Michigan 71 - Brodie Croyle - QB - Alabama 97 - Greg Eslinger - C - Minnesota 103 - Clint Ingram - OLB - Oklahoma 117 - Fred Matua - OG - Southern California 138 - Jeff Webb - WR - San Diego State 173 - Owen Daniels - TE - Wisconsin 211 - Rashon Powers-Neal - FB - Notre Dame
Ughhh. Jets are favoring Lienart, Cutler, Bush, D'brick and everyone else. I can't find any of these articles reliable.....
Take Leinart, and watch him crumble behind that group of stiffs on the Jets OL. Sounds like a great plan to me....
