It's always nice to read a piece like this, actually crediting the Jets. It's a refreshing break from all the negativity thrown around this board.

For the crypt keeper to say something nice is good to see.

Tanny has had my love from day one. How about 4 out of 5 1st round picks immediately contributing and being cornerstones at their positions in their 1st year? Thats amazing. Most GMs can't do that. Out of 5 first round picks, maybe 2 make big impacts in year one while others have to grow into the league. Credit Joey Clinkscales as well for his contributions.

This is why i still have faith that Gholston will turn out fine....it won't be in his first year, mind you....but Tanny's track record dictates that Gholston should turn the corner for us at some point.

    Call it blind optimism....

perfect selections in the first round are everything to a successful franchise....

I ask the older Jets fans - when has the drafting been this good? The 80's?

Its funny, 5 games into the season, the FA's on the O-Line and Brick were getting blasted. They have a couple of good games in a row, and now everyone is on the bandwagon.

Drafting was never good. In the 80's were some immortals like

    Lam Jones
    Mike Haight
    Dave Cadigan
    Roger Vick
    Russel Carter
    Bob Crable
    Ron Faurot

Remember when Tanny was mocked for only being a bean counter by some people?

Tanny's been one of the top GM's in football since he arrived. It's not even debatable IMO. Took us out of cap hell, no doubt had draft input, and he and Mangini have had almost 0 problems getting people to buy into the program.

And its things like this that will make this franchise an elite one in this league soon enough.

I find it uncoincidental that all of these awesome moves happen right when Bradway leaves the FO and Cohen is hired as Assistant GM. Tanny deserves a lot of credit for his wheeling and dealing, but he always needs a football guy next to him to help with the decisions.

Cohen was hired after all those moves, not to mention he had nothing to do with the first two drafts which brought in 5 legit stars in the making.

Yes. My understanding is he intends to follow Chad Ocho Cinco to the courts and have his name legally changed to Wile E. Coyote Super Genius

They are all in for this year. Soon enough is Thursday night and the rest of this year. They aren't building for tomorrow with this bunch they are all in right now. If BB takes Mangini's pants down again on Thursday the program will be expossed. If he can put the Pats in the rear view mirror and do some damage this year, they get a chance to develop a QB and see if we can stay near the top.

I agree the mid 80's drafting was so so, but the drafts that put together the team that made it to the Conf Champ game were damn good.

I don't want to anticipate excuses that might be given, but in fairness the CS is capable of turning the game over to the Pats. And Tanny is not directly responsible for that.
