Saw this yesterday. This is just speculation on the part of reporters who believe Parcells will go with the safest pick at #1 and they believe that Long is that guy. If that happens, do you see Glenn Dorsey falling to us at 6?
Here is the better question, how does the Top 5 shake out? If Long goes 1 what do the Rams do? Dorsey or Jake Long could be of equal help to them in my opinion. If Jake Long is taken what do the Raiders do if Dorsey is there? Do they take him or go with Run DMC? A lot of questions still need to be answered, but to me Dorsey isn't the guy for the Jets.
I think the Phins are leaning towards trading down. Parcells wasn't really in love with the Bledsoe pick(he preferred Mirer) and I think he was overruled on that one. When he was with the Jets, he traded down and nabbed Farrior. I think he thrives on depth and competition, and the Phins really are a team lacking in talent. I'd be shocked if they actually selected one overall. -X-
The problem is...w/ a draft that lacks true elite heavy weights and has alot of value in the mid to late first round/second round...who's gonna be trading up? The only team I can see trading up is Dallas for DMAC..and Tuna will REALLY stick it to Jones and Co. w/ his return demands.
ALOT of picks. If i'm Parcells, I first attempt to trade down. if there are no takers, I take the BPA(DMAC) and shop ronnie Brown around. Afterall...Parcells is all about HIS guys..and also does not care for injury prone RB's...which Brown is.
It could happen. Look how far Peterson fell last year..........drafting is not always logical and/or cut and paste. McFadden could fall to us......we will not know until draft day. I actually would favor any move that bolsters the offensive or defensive line play. Somebody good will be there for us at #6.......that I think we can be sure of.
Dallas' 2 late 1sts should get it done according top what Parcells got for the #1 when he with the Jets..... Is Ronnie Brown injury prone or did he have 1 major injury? He's no Caddilac Williams. I called Long to Miami a while back saying he was the safest pick.
I think St. Louis is a lock for either Glenn Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis. They have always needed help there and either one is an impact player. I think they will bump Carriker outside if they draft one of these guys which is why I don't think they will pick Long if he is available.
Rams are going to take Jake Long with the 2 if he's there. Orlando Pace is post-prime and was hurt last season so looking for his replacement a year early is not a bad move, particularly with Long available. Michigan offensive linemen are like money in the bank. They'll move him inside to play LG for a year or two and then back outside to replace Pace when they have to.
I saw this too. The good news is Parcells will likely step aside before leading the Dolphins anywhere special.
He's going to lead them to 10-6 and then leave a season later. 10-6, as much as I hate to say it, is probably in 2009.
I'm not so sure they will do that... They took Alex Barron in the first round 3 years back...and from what ive heard from their fans, they are much more concerned w/ the D-line than so the O-line, whhere they have alittle more depth. Alot of people think they'll take whichever Long falls to # 2, w/ priority on Chris. However, I think they'd be better off targeting either Dorsey or Ellis(whoever has a better grade). Both fit the rams cover 2 1 gap scheme very well..and they desperately need to move Carriker outside to DE where he belongs(he's currently playing NT out of desperation. A waste of money, draft pick and he obviously isn't a great fit).
QFT. Jake Long to the Rams is the only thing I think I'm almost sure about with this drafts top 10. They could also do Clady if he passes Long at the combine, and Micheal Oher would have been an option if he came out...but I think Long is pretty much a lock now. Of course me thinking it's a lock probably means Parcells goes crazy and takes Long #1 overall or something.
I think that Dorsey is the most likely player to free fall this year. Seems like there are a lot of questions about him as a Pro despite his outstanding play last year.
It's more that he only truly fits one specific scheme(the one gap/3 technique) that not many teams in the top 5/10 play( Only the rams and chiefs) ccoupled w/ the emergence of sedrick Ellis.
Barron was drafted as a LT but he's likely going to stay at RT with the Rams. His footwork is a bit below what you'd like to have on the left side. He was a middling LT prospect when he was drafted, although the best in his class.
The problem is Long doesn't exactly have great feet either. Many including myself believe hee's a much better fit at RT, where he can anchor the running game, and not face as many speed rushers.
even if dmac falls to us at 6, i have a hard time believing we'd take him. i know everyones on the dmac bandwagon, but we really need to build our line on both sides of the ball, or we're posting the same comments on next years message board.
