http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings/_/year/2013/week/0 I like it. Being the big big big underdog at the beginning of the season. Let's see what happens.
lol having the Jets dead last is absurd, but about what I expect from ESPN these days. Seahawks at 1 is pretty nuts too, although they are top 5.
They sure know what they are talking about. Just look at their post draft 2012 season power rankings. http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/58088/nfl-power-rankings-how-they-voted-17
our defense shouldn't falter that much from last year and seriously, our offense can only go up. this team isn't talented, but we aren't the worse team in the nfl. this team seems way more humble than usual
I would definitely agree with the Jags. The Browns have a very good defense and added Mingo. They also have T-Rich and a decent line. Cards also have a good D and have Fitz on offense to go with a decent receiving corps. And they have Mendenhall at RB. With Carson Palmer at QB that's not a bad offense at all.
There is no way the Jets should be below the Jaguars, Raiders and Browns. My personal feeling is there are a few other teams lower on the totem pole at the moment also but the 3 above are glaring clear-cut cases. In Woody's ownership the Jets have had a few bad seasons but they've never earned higher than the 4th pick in the draft. That's not likely to change this year. In fact I'd put their upside at marginal playoff contender. I don't expect them to get there but it's more likely than them getting a top 3 draft pick.
I know the Raiders always "seem" like garbage but they have a pretty decent D too. And they have Run DMC who is a better offensive talent than anyone we have. I have no idea if Flynn is a player though. So I think it's fair to say they are worse than us, but it's debatable.
I don't care about the ranking because it's all nonsense in April anyway, but the guy's quote next to our team irks me: "Every team's goal is to bring in more talent in the draft. The Jets found a way to bring in more quarterback drama." I know these espn guys are just paid to keep a constant stream of bullshit heading our way so we have something new to read every day about our favorite team, but can't one of these guys come up with an original thought or analysis without just regurgitating the circus or qb drama angle?
It sells for ESPN when they dump on the Jets. Just remember that. Most people who are ESPN viewers (and consumers) are not Jets fans. Right now dumping on the Jets is very popular in the wider football world. ESPN is going to follow and cater to their market not set trends. The Raiders spent literally decades as a competitive organization with everybody dumping on them because football fans liked seeing the Raiders get dumped on.
ESPN WROTE: The Jets brought in more talent, as Geno is more talented than Tebow at this point. As for drama, most teams call that a "quarterback competition" and it happens often enough.
It's amazing how they forget to mention that the Jets also came away with 4 starters (not including Geno) in the draft.
