It's very important to remember that the Bills, like 99% of the teams in the league, actually care about winning.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47660266/source-bills-fire-coach-sean-mcdermott The Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Sean McDermott, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday. The Bills lost 33-30 to the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round. McDermott leaves Buffalo with a 98-50 record in his nine seasons as head coach, but he was 8-8 in the postseason and never reached the Super Bowl. Bills general manager Brandon Beane is being retained, a source told ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg. He will help lead the team's search for a new coach.
There's a weird rumor going around that Joe Brady was coming to replace Glenn, if the Bills promote Brady it would certainly raise eyebrows...
McDermott is also a gigantic upgrade from Glenn, one of the best coaching hiring cycles in history and we have Glenn.
It’s hilarious cause McDermott took the mic 2 days ago and stated he was “standing Up 4 BuFfALo, damnit!!” How is that working out? They didn’t stand up for him. I imagine he regrets saying that
I’m not saying they should’ve kept him, but that opens up the 10th spot this offseason and they’re doing this very late in the game. They instantly become the most desirable spot because Allen is in play but Harbaugh and Stefanski are both off the board. McCarthy might be the play? Or maybe they promote Joe Brady. I thought the garbage personnel decisions were a bigger problem for the Bills at least this year. Their best receiver is an average slot receiver. They overpaid Knox to be a TE2 who didn’t step up to be a TE1 when Kincaid went down. The defense prioritized speed at the edge and linebacker spots and got gashed a lot on the ground as a result.
I think McCarthy goes to Pittsburgh, his dad was a firefighter in Pittsburgh or some shit. Could see Tomlin lured back in with that gig, best QB he's ever had.
What rumor? I would certainly love it, but it seems BS - Woody already made it clear he is not firing Glenn. But if you have something on this please share. I just think McDermott was in the same boat as Harbaugh where he has not won enough in play-offs given the MVP level QB. Buffalo is now #1 option for any coach. I do like Brady a lot and they will probably interview him, but I don't think he is the reason they fired Sean. I think Sean will probably get a job in this cycle if he wants. But it's pretty crazy how many coaches who are 10 times better than Glenn are getting fired and dumbass Woody is alleged to the guy.
this is just so frustrating - 4 or 5 really good coaches available this year which never happens and the Jets are not in the market for any of them (of course) and this is why the Jets are the Jets. they must be gutted that Harbaugh already signed to the Giants.
https://forums.jetnation.com/topic/191540-whispersbills-oc-brady-in-play-for-jets-hc/ Saw something on Twitter so went over there and read the whole thread, seemed interesting even though it's probably BS
Thanks! That would be amazing, but 99% chance BS (or more). But... I don't want Brady to be the HC there either way, I think he is really good, so hopefully they won't promote him. Let's see how this plays out.
That’s where I’m at with this whole thing too. Why in God‘s name would you wait until the best candidate available is hired by another team and the second best candidate says he wants to take a year off? Unless the plan has always been to promote Joe Brady and have him take over, which makes a ton of sense, I don’t understand the move. Not to mention they kept the GM who had just as much of, if not more of a hand in this than McDermott. Their cap Management has been terrible, they have no money to spend this year and a standard allotment of picks except they haven’t drafted well either. that being said if Joe Brady is everything the league is making him out to be then it makes a lot of sense to just hand him the reins. Not a complete reboot, just hitting update. And let’s get real, does Josh Allen have more than five years in him with the style of football he plays? Of course he’s going to be good for a while but at some point he’s not going to be able to take these hits anymore and use his legs to bail himself out. You have an unbelievable small margin for error, Joe Brady presents the safest option.
Funny and slightly mad comment from Schefter: "Mike Vrabel, hired 372 days ago, is now the AFC East’s longest-tenured head coach."
I'd be excited about a Saleh/McDaniel combo. Or the pipe dream of Cignetti but that's not happening. Very surprised Beane is keeping his job.
Who gives a shit. In TRUE Jets fashion, Johnson, the most useless football shit stain of all time, will fire Glenn mid-season and there won’t be a coach worth a sack of dog shit available. Not that it matters much in the grand scheme…
