Some quickie stats from Green/White Practice
Have to pound out a few things for tomorrow's newspaper but here's a couple things from today's Green and White Practice, won by the Green Team, 10-7. Chad Pennington quarterbacked the Green Team and Kellen Clemens led the White. The practice was non-contact.

    GREEN TEAM
Pennington: 8 for 14, 115 yards and a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jerricho Cotchery.
Cotchery: 4 receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown.

    WHITE TEAM
Clemens: 8 for 22 137 yards and a 55-yard touchdown pass to Dustin Keller
Keller: 4 catches for 79 yards and that touchdown.
Washington: 3 receptions for 32 yards.

Back with more later. Oh, and no picks by either quarterback. And Mike Nugent made a 45-yard field goal for the Green team that made it 10-0 in the third quarter, then missed a 48-yarder in the fourth, also for the Green, that would have extended the lead to 13-7. It sailed wide right.

OH, PART II: Ben Graham, punting from the end zone in the second quarter, unloaded an 86-yard punt.

Feel free to discuss the quarterback play. Or Keller's general unstopable-ness (not a word, so what). Or Cotchery. Or enjoy the rest of your Saturday afternoon/night.

Humorous sidenote of the afternoon: As the media was interviewing Chad Pennington afterward, some fans still in the bleachers began a "C-H-A-D" chant. One of the people doing the interviewing was WFAN's Jerry Recco, and toward the end of the interview people started chanting his name. I have absolutely nothing sarcastic to say about that whatsoever. But you just stay classy, Jerry Recco.

Also, the practice/game/scrimmage was broadcast on AM 1050 ESPN. If Bob Wischusen, the voice of the Jets and innumerable televised college football broadcasts, wished he was elsewhere, it didn't sound like it. A pro's pro for making a SCRIMMAGE more than listenable.

I'm really surprised to hear that Clemens went 8 for 22. He seemed a lot better.

so in other words the only two guys who can catch a pass on Clemens' squad were Keller and Leon

Can someone explain this C-H-A-D chant to me?

Is that supposed to be sarcastic?

I'm more concerned with the lack of points than with who won. I suppose the defense could be real good, but if you look at what our offense did last year you would have to guess it's the offense not doing well. We averaged fewer than 17 PPG last season - 11 times we scored fewer than 20 points and 4 times we scored fewer than 10. That's not going to win a lot of games unless you have an outstanding defense.

I know it's real early yet, but I'm real anxious to see this offense improve. Keller sounds like he could help a lot in that regard.

we'll get to see how things are shaping up a little more on Thursday...all I know is one thing; Chad Pennington's dink and dunk offense ain't gonna cut it-you HAVE to stretch the field every once in a while-at least Clemens can do that...please nobody mention Farve-if we get him, fine....until then...

When the QBs were tocuhed they blew the plays dead, when players were wrapped up they blew the plays dead. Don't be fooled by the lack of scoring, there's now way it could have been high scoring.

To be fair, the defense looked very good for the most part today. A few times Chad and Kellen were able to beat them on deep passes (yes, Chad threw it deep twice!), but for the most part they were solid both ways.

The offensive unit working with Clemens team in particular was god awful. But Pennington had the first string unit.

I didn't go last year but I remember a few years ago it was similar. It's hard for O's to score in that type of "game".

Is this a joke!? The punt traveled 86 yards in the air?

Game also probably wasnt delayed by rain and that players didnt have to play in poor weather conditions.

I was fortunate enough to see the 3rd quarter and a bit of the 4th before I had to run.

Keller is the best offensive player on the field period. The guy is going to be a stud. IMHO he's in the elite category of athletic tight ends already. He seems to have bulked up a little bit from his college days. He's got phenomenal speed and hands for a TE. He's definitely no Anthony Becht or Kyle Brady.

The offensive lines look tremendously improved. Woody got good penetration and was out ahead of the pack on a couple of sweeps to the right side. He's got much better size than I expected. Brick has definitely bulked up and took care of the left side of the line.

Jenkins is HUGE- he absolutely commands a double team. He doesn't seem to get too tired either, a testament to his athleticism. Gholston is also an animal, dude is ripped. I didn't see anything remarkable out of him today but I only saw a little more than one quarter and had to leave.

Nugent drilled one field goal from 40 yards and missed a 48 yarder. He had plenty of leg with the miss, he easily has enough leg to hit FGs from the 55.

Revis made a phenomenal read on a Pennington pass on the first play of the 3rd quarter. Chad was looking for Cotch running an out route and Revis dove and knocked the ball away. He has just amazing instincts and will be a treat to watch.

QB play was tough to gauge on one quarter- Clemens had a nice pass on the Keller TD but he also made some bad reads. Chad was more or less the same. I'd give the slight edge to Chad today. Kellen took a few sacks and still needs to work on getting rid of the ball.

and you guys wanted to cut the Aussi, jesus that right there is a big mother lovin leg. So next time we are in our endzone and punting, Graham best be kicking it 90 yards. I want to see an endzone to endzone punt god damnit!

really though this is a good thing, I think it means Graham is really got his head back on his shoulders and he is ready to become an elite NFL punter, at least in terms of distance.

im not too worried about the lack of points since the first team offensense really didnt play much. the quarters were only 10 minutes each and the 2nd qtr ended early due to rain. cp only played about 15 minutes total.

Most impressed with Keller, he seems to be a stud, and his speed is well documented. Better offensive line couples with a better receiving game with Keller added and good blocking coming from the FB spot. I very much doubt we score less than 10 points 4 times this season. Clemens receivers might of dropped a couple but he holds onto the ball too long and takes bad reads....8-22 is bad, some attributed to the drops sure, but he is going to have to really improve to be the starting QB come Miami.
