The 2006 third-rounder starter nearly overtook Erik Coleman in camp last year before starting four games later in the season. Smith has been an Eric Mangini favorite for awhile, so the change figures to stick. I'm a little surprised considering Elam's dynamic (though not exactly good) tenure as the starter. Figured he'd get a shot to start. Either way, our SS position doesn't thrill me.
