I think Eric Mangini feels a bit like a Mary without a Peter and Paul.

I get what the psycho is trying to say... perhaps because i am one as well... Eric needs a better brain trust than he has in Schotty and Sutton. He needs his own Weis and Crennel... I think Daboll could be that, but defensively who can step up as a DC?

Guys, Eric Mangini may never see the dawn of the 2009 season. Next year is a make or break year for him. He either goes into the playoffs, or, if they have a losing season, he's gone. If they go 9-7 in 2008 he'll most likely get a reprieve.

I'm just starting to think that this guy just isn't head coach material.

Even if he gets his Weis and Crennel he's no Belichik.

His presentation thus far definitely is not head coach material.

Last season I gave him a bye on looking overmatched at the microphone during the post game press conferences. This year he's starting to look like raw, bloody meat and the piranhas in the press will drive him off the podium before too much longer.

It is not that he is not HC material, it is really more like as a team, especially on defense, we stink.

Good HC's don't have defenses that just blow chunks all over the field.

Well, I just think he's shown a surprising lack of ability to adjust and win like he did in 2006. It's bad. Flat out bad. They've been in EVERY Game and you can't squeak out 2 or 3 wins at this point? Sorry, but the law of averages would indicate that if you're leading at halftime or tied 5 or 6 times, you're going to win at least half those games.

That hasn't happened. Who else is there to blame other than the coaches?

    Belichik took over a newly collapsed 3-13 team and went 6-10, 7-9, 7-9. 11-5.

The Browns defense went 17, 12, 15, 5 in his first 4 seasons on the job as they completed the transition from 4-3 to 3-4. They had been 23 in a 4-3 the season before he arrived.

In a lot of ways the Browns experience immediately before Belichik took over was very similar to the Jets just before Mangini. They were a marginal playoff team winning 9 or 10 games a season that collapsed due to injuries and aging the season before Belichik arrived. They had a beloved QB who was both injury prone and aging in Bernie Kosar.

    The difference?

Belichik began improving the defense immediately and raised its level of play each season until he recreated a good team. Mangini has presided over the utter collapse of the Jets defense.

True, but I don't think enough time has passed to cure us from the damage inflicted from Herm.
