I loved the way Eric Barton played for us in the 04/05 season. I'm concerned however because we just signed Mangini's boy Chatham. How will EB fit into the new system, will he see much playing time?

i'd say Chatham will back-up Barton in the 4-3 and play ahead of Barton in 3-4 until Barton gets the hang of playing in a 3-4.

Chatham, in my opinion, was brought in for depth, education, and capability of playing different schemes.

    cheers

Barton will make a fantastic edge rusher and pressure guy in the 34!

At this point it's way to early to start figuring out who is going to go where. I'm not really sure how Barton fits into a 3-4. He's not a typical 3-4 outside linebacker.

    perhaps.

but from what I've seen of Barton, he isn't that fast. this could owe to poor angles he takes on the ball, I'm not sure. I'm not saying Barton's slow, but I don't know if he'll thrive as an edge-rusher. He definitely has the tenacity and "mean streak" and desire to wreak havock in the backfield as a rusher; I'm just think he's a better 4-3 OLB than an edge-rusher.

Barton is a definite starter..this guy was a great LB for Raiders and played great for us. I was thrilled when we picked him up. He will definately start, maybe in the middle with Vilma. The fact remains that our players fit the 4-3 better than the 3-4 and I am sure Mangini realizes this. I think we will have much more a hybrid defense running all sorts of sets instead of just a 3-4. Either way, Barton will be a starter and will amass over a hundred tackles and couple of big plays for us. Hes a player

for sure, Barton can play. i really don't see him as an ILB though. If any of our OLB's were to switch, i'd assume Hobson is the guy because he has some ILB in his past at Michigan.

I think Hobson can play either, which is good can we can show multiple schemes and faces in the same package. Barton is the same way, if these guys are used the right way we can really confuse some Defenses and allow guys like Miller, Rhodes and Coleman, who I feel all have a solid nose for the ball, make some plays. I am excited to see what Mangini and Sutton come up with.

We will NOT play a 3-4 exclusively

Like NE, we will play 4-3, 3-4, 6-2 and every variation different each week depending on opponent. Gone are the by rote predictable days of loser Herm. We will use different schemes each week. Barton will play multiple rules and will be used effectively.

I dont think that chatham is any threat to barton. barton is a much better LB then Chatham regardless of the system. I just hope Barton heals up and is 100%
