This might be the most vanilla gameplan I've seen since the good old days of Hackett and Downing. No imagination, no deception. Just the same old shit run, run, pass, punt. No passes over 10 yds. Don't get me started on the OL. They decided to hang out on Bourbon St. instead of showing up today.. I think our tank is secure. Next year though, Engstrand had better show more than this college level bullshit he trots out weekly.
The Tank Lives!!! Good job Engstrand and the OLine for their invaluable contributions to the effort...
He should be fired. No next year. He hasn't shown the ability to improve the level of play of multiple QBs so far this season. They seem to get worse. Wilks paid for his sins. Tanner needs to go too.
Not sure if any QB would have done well with that OLine and gameplan. It was a total trainwreck today.
It was mostly Cook. Like 90 percent of it. I don't think the line played that bad outside of Simpson and Tippman (only a few plays Tippmam was bad)
I will say this again: you know how bad the coaching is when hard core fans actually believe they are tanking on purpose.
I definitely think coaches can and have tanked in the past. One of the most glaring examples was Belichick doing Kraft a solid on the way out the door and securing Drake Maye by flopping around like a fish against Bob Saleh in week 17. (Saleh still struggled to win that game) The only person that can decide a team is going to tank is the owner. No GM/CS is going to purposefully lose games outside of the owner's knowledge or approval or they are fired. So the coaches have to be complicit with the owner to tank. Players will never stop playing and hurt their game tape and most likely will give up on the CS if asked to do so, so it's still hard to actually tank at the end of the day. At this point I have no doubt in my mind that Woody Johnson has fallen in love with a QB and wants the tank. Game plan today sure looked that way.
Multiple people on this board suggested we were tanking intentionally even before. Then we won a couple with special teams. Then lost again and people again think we are intentionally tanking. Yes I know sometimes coaches do that, and Belichick surely did, but it is pretty rare and I just don't think this regime is in this position, they are not proven at all. The plan was simple because Cook is UDFA. Because he is extremely INT prone. He is playing because Fields broke down mentally and gave up and Tyrod broke down physically. We are not tanking on purpose, we just suck ass.
No he just sucks, look how bad Justin Fields regressed under him. Get ready for our next Franchise Qb to do the same.
There is NO ONE presently on this CS that can groom a kid QB into a star. Any top ranked College QB should be terrified at the thought of getting drafted by the Jets with this roster and CS in place.
Yes considering the Jets busted Darnold, Hackenberg, - Kellen Clemens, Zack Wilson, Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez any Qb should be terrified getting drafted by the Jets. At this point its not the Qb thats a bust but whoever is developing them.
That gameplan Engstrand came in with today wouldn't have beat Notre Dame. Now I realize Engstrand is a rookie and doesn't really know how to put gameplans together specific to the opponent, but damn, this sure looked simplistic. In fact, it was so simplistic that questions should be asked whether this gameplan was approved by Glenn or ANYBODY. We're gonna lose out and the last best chance for a win was today. I feel bad for Cook because he was more or less the sacrificial lamb in this race to the bottom.
Or maybe for once, tanked the right way.. They are pretty much a lock to lose out now. Rolled out a gameplan that couldn't beat a community college and started a UDFA QB as a sacrificial Lamb to the slaughter. If I didn't know better, I'd give the Jets CS high marks for this tank if that was indeed their plan. #Machiavellian
I've been thinking about this... Cook's first drive against the Jags was brilliantly called, 8 plays and a great pass to Mitchell for a TD Then the book was closed... Much like Mike LaFleur, I think Engstrand has the chops, he's just being bottled up
