I thought this was an interesting article. The draft never shapes up the way it is suppose to so I wouldn't be surprised if some of these surprises happen. Bud Dupree might be right. I feel like pass rushers are more hit or miss than many other positions drafted http://draftbreakdown.com/joe-marinos-edge-rankings-and-grades-for-the-2015-nfl-draft/
I didn't realize how big and fast DuPree was. I'm sure that has to get Mac and Bowles excited. A 270 lbs 4.5 running OLB is impressive. Kentucky held him back so his sack totals might have been higher.
I'm surprised about Ray, but not Beasley. Beasley has been climbing ever since the underwear Olympics and neither have good size .
bud dupree is the ultimate boom or bust prospect, but i'd expect him to boom. he's the quickest off the snap and has a high motor, he is just insanely raw. he has absolutely no clue how to use his hands and doesn't have many moves. supposedly he has a great work effort and i expect him to reach his potential one day. don't be surprised if the jets think about him at 6
argh..I really hope they don't waste either of their first two picks on defense, there isn't a defensive player in this draft that will make the Jets defense any better than it will already be. First by a lot or first by a little won't win any more games however adding big time offensive players will.
So you want to keep Calvin pace while he is in wheelchair, as our starting OLB? Cmon don, if you could get the future OLB with the 6th pick, you do it, the jets can then release Pace and continue the transition to becoming a younger team on both sides of the ball. JMO
Actually, if I'm reading this correctly and you're talking about being first in defense, being first by a lot absolutely wins more games than being first by a little. Though maybe you're referring to being first in something else that I'm missing?
Do you like DM or do you feel he is going to be just an average lineman? Because from what I have seen and my Giants fans friends tell me, he is going to be a force to reckon with this year. He had 5.5 sacks last year in limited playing time, but he is getting stronger and more disciplined and being 22 years old they feel he is going to help the Giants dline get back to form in regards to the pass rushing ability we have seen from them.
Why not, he had 5 sacks last year and 10 the year before. The front 7 is already the best in the league and now that they have some people to play behind them they can be cut loose. Like I said the defense won't score any more points for the Jets so don't waste picks on them. Next year they can address pass rushers. The Jets were 28th in points scored last year and do you think they will be any better this year with Smith and Irory still leading the way?
I agree with you that the defense won't score points, but the only other spot that the Jets could use the 6th pick on would be QB and we know that other than Winston, MM is not a lock to start this year. The other position of long term impact would be OLB or OL, and I don't know enough about the OL draft prospects to say whether there is a guy worthy of a 6th pick. That leaves OLB as the next position to address and there are plenty of good ones available at the 6th pick. Sometimes you have to let the players on the board determine your choice, if we can't get a QB, not sure about the OL, but the BPA on the board is Beasley or Dupree, or Fowler, you can't pass those guys up. I'm never one to select a WR with the 6th pick, just not a fan of it. JMO
I agree picking 6 there aren't a lot of offensive choices at the positions we need most and I'm not sure if we trade down we still get anybody we want so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I don't knowhow you guys can say the defense can't svore any more points. I can't remember the last time we had a pick 6 or a fumble returned for a TD . Turnovers change a game sacks change a game pressure on the QB change the game. The Giants showed the league the only way to beat Brady is to hit him, and we've done a good job of it the last 2 seasons . By adding Speed off the edge with a push up the middle maybe there's a few strip sacks in our future
No, you were reading it right..last year we were 6th in defense and won 4 games. If we were first we might have won 5 or 6, but if the offense was 6th and not 28th and the defense was 6th we would have probably won 11 or 12. I still hope we don't waste either of our first 2 picks on defense.
Dupree can be a bust as a pass rusher but I don't think he'll be a bust as an overall football player because of his ability to play on and off the LOS. I liken him to Calvin Pace in that way. Pace never developed into the dominant pass rushing DE/OLB he was drafted to be but he still had a long somewhat productive career in the NFL because of this ability to do more than just rush the passer.
