If there was ever a year to trade down, this is it. We need as many picks as we can get. With that said, I think there will be a 34OLB or 43DE on the board at #9 that teams will be willing to move up for. NYJ trades #9 to CIN for #21 (I'm assuming they lose this week) #37 (via Oak/Carson Palmer) and a future 5th. Rd 1(21)- Ezekiel Ansah, OLB/DE, BYU. I've been a huge advocate of going offense in rd 1, but if we trade down and Ezekiel is still on the board, he could be the ANSAH to our pass-rushing woes. I know that some would be hesitant because he is somewhat of a "project", but IMO he is more JPP than Gholston. He is freakishly athletic (as opposed to combine/weight room athletic) and has a great motor. Rd 2(37)- Gio Bernard, RB, North Carolina. Huge fan favorite on this board, and it's easy to see why. Could be our version of Doug Martin/Ray Rice. Rd 2(39)- Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford. He could end up going earlier, but if he is still here we should pull the trigger. Keller will probably be gone, and we can't afford to pass on a TE this good in round 2. Everyone knows what a great receiver he is, but he would also help out immediately in the trenches. Rd 3- Kyle Long, T/G, Oregon. Might not be ready to start day 1, but most 3rd rounders are not. Has huge upside, and great pedigree (Son of Howie, brother of Chris). Has not been playing OL consistently for very long (played baseball at FSU before getting a DUI, then was a DE for a while) but has the natural ability to be a very good starting OL in the league. Rd 4- Conner Vernon, WR, Duke. Isn't the biggest or fastest guy in the world, but you don't become the ACC's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards by accident. Knows how to get open, has great hands, and is a hard-nosed team-first player. I know that it's early and a lot could change, but IMO we would be very lucky if the first 4 rounds turned out this way. Thoughts?
Those were 2012 picks, we have all of our picks this year... as of now anyway. http://www.nyjetsdraft.com/2013-jets-nfl-draft-picks/
5 picks and only one developmental OL. Sorry, we need at least two. One of those two needs to be able to start day 1. We took a developmental monster in DuCasse. That hasn't panned out as planned. As of now we have Mangold, Ferguson and DuCasse. Moore, Slausan and Howard are all FA's in one form or another. Ansah is an entriging player, but I haven't seen him in a mock before the third. Granted, it wasn't a name I was looking for and on your advice will research him more.
Rotoworld's mock has Ansah going 6th overall. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/42244/344/postseason-mock-draft That doesn't mean much but he is an intriguing player.
I'm not crazy about Ansah. I'd rather take Mingo if we traded back for sure. Bernard and ertz would be a nice haul in the second.
you haven't seen many mocks then. every one I have seen recently has Ansah anywhere from top 10 to mid twenties.
Cinci's 2nd rounder this year (the first one, anyway) is the 5th pick of the 2nd round. Point-wise 21 + 37 are almost an exact match with #9. So we would have 3 picks between 21-39, not too shabby. To put that in perspective, last year C Jones, Weeden, Reiff, DeCastro, Hightower, Har Smith, Doug Martin, David Wilson, Fleener, Upshaw, and J Jenkins all went in that range. If we walked away from last year's draft with any 3 of those guys we would all be ecstatic.
