I'm still a bit unsure of where we will be picking or exactly where all our picks will be but I'm bored so I figured why not throw one out and see what you guys think. I did neglect QB because I think the Jets will go out and get a vet like Schaub and allow Geno to sit and learn. I'm assuming we pick in the middle of round 1 maybe in the 12-16 range. Round 1 - Khalil Mack OLB Buffalo, guy makes plays. Had a big game against Ohio State and has been one of the best unknown pass rushers in college football because of where he plays. I can't wait to watch their bowl game to see him against a MWC team. He sacks the QB, knocks down passes and intercepts them as well. Round 2 - Darqueze Dennard CB Michigan State, I have watched this guy a few times this year and he is a beast. Always seems to be around the ball. He does seem a little slow compared to some of the other CB's in the draft but I like his coverage skills. Round 2 - Eric Ebron TE North Carolina, A big, fast TE that could potentially create coverage nightmares. Has big play ability. He isn't a great blocker but we need playmakers and Ebron could fill tha void. Round 3 - Calvin Pryor S Lousville, a big hitter that has also shown he can play decent in coverage. Round 3 - Bishop Sankey RB Washington, I have no faith in Goodson to stay healthy or stay out of jail. Sankey has been pretty good going over 1200 yards. Round 3 - David Yankey G Stanford, a depth pick but would eventually end up starting at LG. Has good technqiue and has done well against good competition.
The offense needs to be addressed GREATLY in the draft and free agency. Nice picks but Ebron probably won't make it past the first round outside from bad interviews, a bad combine, and off the field issues. Dennard will probably go higher as well and has played great coming back from a leg injury, love his technique. But WRs are a MUST!!!
Not a fan. Pass rush is great and all but not that high of a priority. Offense needs to be the primary focus of this draft, even if they do plan to sign a FA or two. I think the run game is fine as well or if Goodson is cut they can sign someone else with similar characteristics. I say we need at least one WR before the end of the second round, maybe a TE as well. We better draft a safety at some point too. We have needs all over the field but those are the most pressing to me, maybe OL too.
Barry, I would take this and run...we have money to play with and can sign guys in free agency on the offensive side of the ball.
I'm not as down as our WR as most, I think they are servicable and lets be honest we have had essentially no luck drafting WR's high. That being said I made this before I saw the news about Hill and his knee. It might be time to accept that he is not going to turn into what we envisioned. I think Ebron is going to be a stud and my big fear is that the Pats realize Gronk will never be healthy so they take him and he turns into a pro bowler.
I think outside of QB WR is the biggest hit or miss in the draft, I started at 2011 and went back 5 years with all the WR's drafted in the 1st and 2nd round just to see if my theory held true 2011 AJ Green Julio Jones Jonathon Baldwin Titus Young Torey Smith Greg Little Randall Cobb 2010 Demariyus Thomas Dez Bryant Arrelious Benn Golden Tate 2009 Michael Crabtree Jeremy Maclin Percy Harvin Hakeem Nicks Kenny Britt Brian Robiski Mohammed Mosaqui 2008 Donnie Avery Devin Thomas Jordy Nelson James Hardy Eddie Royal Jerome Simpson Limas Sweed DeSean Jackson Malcolm Kelly Dexter Jackson 2007 Calvin Johnson Tedd Ginn Jr Dwayne Bowe Robert Meachem Buster Davis Anthony Gonzalez Dwayne Jarrett Sidney Rice Steve Smith (not the good one) I found some absolute studs like Megatron, AJ Green and Dez Bryant but some wastes like Arrelious Ben, Ted Gin, Buster Davis, Limas Sweed and James Hardy but mostly average at best WRs like Avery, Meachem, Tate and Royal. It really is a crapshoot
^ I think this year is going to be a very good WR class. There's a ton of depth. I can make a case for at least 10 draft eligible WR's in the first 2 rounds. Also, Im confused with the mock. Where did the extra 2nd and 3rd come from?
dennard and ebron are both 1st round picks and more than likely won't be there for us in the 2nd round. i think it's extremely stubborn to not draft WRs this year strictly because we've failed in the past. this has to be one of the better WR drafts i can remember players like sammy watkins, marqise lee, mike evans, odell beckjam, jarvis landry, brandon coleman, allen robinson, donte moncrief, and more are all 1st-2nd round talents. it would be idiotic to take take one of them
Barry this holds true for every position. The odds off getting a bust stand at around 50% in round one and drop from thier. Cherry picking one position and trying to evaluate it outside of all other info will give some very skewed results. The simple fact is the entire draft processs is not an exact science but it can not be stressed enough that drafting well is the key to being a competitive team over the long term. I was confused by this as well. Agree that receiver looks to be perhaps the deepest part of this draft class.
If any of you recall, that 2008 draft I think a bunch of Jet fans wanted one of the 3 tall receivers coming out that year, Hardy, Sweed or Kelly and when we moved up into the first round that year all 3 were still on the board and I could have sworn it was for one of them. We took Dustin Keller instead  Turns out, regardless how you feel about Keller, it was a good move because all of those big 3 did nothing in the NFL. _
Care to actually give some reason why? I've seen him mocked as high as 14 and as low as mid second. This time of year player evaluations are all over the place. Many of the TE's last season who were rated as first rounders last year fell to the early second and the same could happen again as positional value of lineman start to trump other areas as the draft nears.
He's a dynamic playmaker. He's the closest to Graham, Gronk, Thomas, Cameron that everyone's trying to find. With Hernandez in jail and Gronk out for most of next year he won't make it past the Pats.
How do you wind up with two 2nd round picks? Can't justify CB in the second. Tomorrow should shed some more light on how serviceable Walls can be next year but basically I don't like that pick. If it does shake out with defensive emphasis again in the first two a good WR and G absolutely need to be added in FA, if that happens it would be alright.
That would be an abject failure of a draft if it went down like that, which it never would. Do any of these mock draft guys actually watch the Jets play? Apparently not because to have this mock draft show two defensive players with the Jets first two picks is a joke. This Jets draft is about OFFENSE, especially at the top. We should do very well drafting WR's early and often in this draft. I've seen most of those guys above and they are all legit pro receivers. The LSU tandem is impressive and I'd be happy with either one of them if we can't get the other top guys.
Al Toon? Keyshawn? Just to name a few. This WR class is really good, you cannot neglect the offensive side of the ball by drafting 2 defensive players in the first 2 rounds. I understand you did your diligence in doing this mock, but this would make me throw up if this were to actually happen
