Glad to see him out of our division: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/...Pro-Bowl-LT-Peters?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=5
Wow, kind of supprised by this move. Good short term from the Jets. I hate seeing the Bills get more picks but love Peters bing out of the AFC east. I guess they could be targeting a LT at 11 now and going defense at 28?
Good move by the Bills. They're guaranteed a franchise left tackle at their draft position, be it Michael Oher or Andre Smith. Plus, they rid themselves of an overrated player, and they can likely now pick up the player I imagine they would've drafted at 12 later on, Brandon Pettigrew. (Or trade up to secure him).
I don't know if they're guranteed of one of those guys or not. The Lions, Rams, Seahawks, Bengals, Raiders, Jaguars, Packers & Niners could all be looking at tackles before Buffalo picks. It's possible all four top guys could be gone by 11.
No, they are not guaranteed a franchise left tackle at #28. Jason Peters is better than any left tackle they'd get there.
Even if they were guaranteed one of those guys, no player in the draft is a guarantee. Whoever they take could easily turn out to be a bust.
And he's certainly better right now than anybody the Eagles could have gotten at 28. I think it's a great trade for Philly. With the Giants d-line being so loaded, the Eagles needed to make a move to solidy their o-line.
He, like I did, is suggesting they will target one at #11 and be able to go with another need at #28. At 11 you shoul still be looking at one of the top 3 or 4 LT's in the draft.
fine, but that's vastly different than saying you'll get a franchise LT for Peters. They could've gotten a top tackle at 11 anyway. This trade just gives them a late 1st rounder. Besides, there have been a number of tackle busts. Not as many as QB busts, but plenty. There's no guaranteed franchise left tackle available, especially not at #11 and certainly not at #28.
That I completely agree with. Dont forget the Bills also get a second day pick this year and late rounder next year. I don;t know how high the second day pick is, but if its a 3rd (moved to day two this year) its another big addition for them draft pick wise. It comes down to how well the bills draft to see if this really pans out. As a Jets fan I hope they completely fuck it up.
Looks like its a a first and fourth this year. ESPN The Philadelphia Eagles have worked out an agreement in principle to acquire Buffalo Bills left tackle Jason Peters, according to multiple sources. NFL.com Video Andy Reid talks with Scott Hanson about the Eagles' new additions and expectations for the coming season. For Peters, the Bills will receive a first-round pick (the 28th selection in the round), a fourth-rounder in next weekend's draft and an undisclosed pick in 2010, according to a source. Peters has been asked to fly to Philadelphia on Friday to meet with the Eagles, who have 12 draft choices including two first-round selections. Any trade would be contingent on Peters passing a physical, but it might also require Peters to agree to a contract extension. The Eagles and Peters' agent, Eugene Parker, were scheduled to open contract talks Friday. According to an Eagles source, the Eagles would like to have a contract in place before the trade is complete. Because of that, the Eagles might not be able to announce the trade until as late as Sunday. For more than a year, Peters has been in a contract stalemate with the Bills. He's made two Pro Bowls at left tackle and wants to become one of the highest-paid players at his position -- at an annual salary of possibly more than $11 million. Peters is scheduled to make $3.375 million for the coming season. Last year he held out of training camp, but the decision did not get him a new contract. Peters is signed through 2010 and can then become a free agent. A great success story for the Bills, Peters was an undrafted tight end out of Arkansas. The Bills turned him into an offensive lineman and he ended up starting 10 games by his second season. Buffalo eventually turned him into one of the best left tackles in the game.
I guess the argument here boils down to how you feel about Jason Peters. For some reason, everyone seems to think this guy is one of the best left tackles in the league. Forget the fact that he bitched about his contract for YEARS or that, as a result of skipping the off-season program last year, he was in poor shape and only played 13 games. He gave up 11.5 sacks last year! That's the WORST 2008 left tackle performance in the NFL. 13 games. Why is everyone so high on this guy?
I have nothing to say about your post. I just laughed to see you quoted me in your sig. That was from the fivetoejoe thread, right?
I think he's better than mediocre. And in a division where you have to block DeMarcus Ware, Osi Yumienyora, and Justin Tuck, it makes sense to trade for a proven commodity over drafting a guy and hoping he pans out.
Or they could package the picks and move up. There's a solid chance that Oher is still available at 11, but they also have the ammo to move up to #4 if KC passes on Monroe. It would be worthwhile for Seattle. They could take a chance on Oher dropping to 11 and grab the receiver they need at 28.
I thought Peters was horrible last season, I don?t get how he made the Probowl. Maybe because of his holdout, but I wouldn?t have given up a 1st for him, the way he played last year, i probably would have packed a 1st and a 2nd and get Oher, if i were the Iggls.
So those are three of the best sackers in the league. Look closer at Peters statistics from last year. More sacks allowed than any other left tackle in the league, but against what competition? The Jaguars, 20th in the league in sacks, the Raiders (13th), St. Louis (16th), Arizona (14th), San Diego (22nd), two games against Miami (8th), two against the Jets (7th; anybody remember which side Abram Elam blitzed from?), one game against New England (14th), Cleveland (second worst sacking team in the league), Kansas City (worst sacking team in the league), and San Francisco (16th). Who is the most dominant pass rusher from that competition? Calvin Pace? Rookie Chris Long? He surrendered more sacks than any other left tackle in the league playing against modest defenses. Now, he'll be playing two games a year against Dallas (1st) and two against the Giants (6th, without Osi). This dude is gonna get smoked. EDIT: One more interesting little statistical tidbit: Out of the top ten sackers from last year, Peters and the Bills encountered only one, Joey Porter of the Dolphins, who had multiple sacks in each game against the Bills.
C'mon now. You make it sound like last year was his rookie year. He was great the two previous years, and last year he ended his holdout the Saturday before the Bills' first game. If he gets in shape and is serious about attending off season workouts and getting ready to play, he's a very good tackle. And if I had to decide who I would rather have blocking Osi and DeMarcus, and my choices were Jason Peters or Eben Britton or whatever other tackle you might get at 28, I'd take Peters in a heartbeat.
