thats a shame, he has been their best player for a number of years and he is still a great player. its a shame he got that concussion last year.

the nfl couldnt give a shit less about its players, they just reload and move on. oh hey thanks, we dont really want to pay you though cause we got this other kid who is pretty good. see ya.

then they claim its all business. yeah its business but why must business be this way? oh hmm wait a second... maybe thats one of the reasons they are going to have labor issues.

Wow... with so many veteran RBs getting cut I wonder if it will push the Jets to cutting TJ and go after one of these veteran RBs (Lewis,LT, Westbrook)...

All of those guys have proven to be more worn down and/or injury prone than Jones.

Not to jump off topic, but since when did we start forcing players to play in the NFL? If you don't want to be broken down at the age of 40, don't play in the NFL. Actually study in college and get a real job. If you want to make millions and have your brain turned to mush, then sign on the dotted line. I don't have sympathy for anybody who makes a decision that carries consequences.

yes, but jones was also injured at the end of last season and it took a huge chunck of his effectiveness with it during the playoff run.

Its not that I would take a chance on an older guy, but I'm not totally against cuttign Jones and replacing him with a young guy to be our 3rd back like I feel Jones will this season.

I'd love to replace Jones with Westbrook, but that's more because Westbrook went to Villanova than because it's the best football move.

Westbrook can still play when he's healthy. The problem is he's one concussion away from being Chrebet'd.

it's a double edged sword, players know it's a business it's why they hold out and refuse to sign franchise tags til as late as possible

What is the advantage of using someone who has been less effective than TJ as of lately and has the same (at best) injury concerns? I don't see what we would gain.

    Seriously.

And isn't Jamal Lewis retiring anyway? Earlier last season he mentioned how he was considering retiring after this past season. Once he got hurt and placed on IR mid-to-late in the season, I heard he was almost 100% positive that '09 was his last year.

These guys make millions upon millions....and you feel sorry for them?

They offered him a job at a reduced salary. It happens.

I really hope nobody signs Brian Westbrook. I really hope he retires. Not out of any spite, but simply because he was always injured and now has concussion problems to tack onto the list. He was a great player and his ability to move in open space would go from legendary to tragic if he turns out to need a cane in his 30s. The gods no longer favor him on the field. It's time he let it go.

That isn't the correct name anyhow. The best Jets WR by far with concussion problems was Toon.

Westbrook must be hurt worse than anyone expected. Not a very good prospect to sign in the least.

Did you read the part were I said I did not want to take a chance on an older guy. I want someoen young to be the third back. I feel that Greene and Washington are going to take the bulk of the gorund work this year.

If your refering to Greene as the one having trouble staying healthy I agree, but we need to know now if he can shoulder the load or not. His power and speed were extremely evident in the playoffs as greater than what Jones brings to the table.

I think the NFL cares too much about the players... All this talk about taking away the three point stance. The fact is, is the game of football is physical and therefore players will get hurt and injured. The NFL has made it as safe as they possibly can without ruining the sport and that's all they can do. It's now up to the players to invest their money, take reasonable long contracts and make sure to train so you can play the game without getting injured.

BTW I hope Westbrook is done too. I wish he wouldn't have gotten injured because I've heard he was truly amazing to watch live. My brother (a HUGE AD fan) went to an Eagles game a few years ago and was just raving on how amazing Westbrook was during the game.

Westbrook would be a great pickup for us if he was cheap. Unfortunately the odds are he either gets a team to gamble on a sem-expensive contract or he retires. Westbrook is one of those guys who has been banged up a lot over the years and he understands that NFL football is not a game.

We already have Leon Washington, we do not need another HB with Leon's skill set like Westbrook.

Good post. Why spend money on a player we already have? Leon can do what Westbrook does minus the annoying injuries.
