I don't see him back in the NFL anytime soon. Ever since his sons death, it was only a matter of time before he finally retired.
Why couldn't he wait like another month? I hate all of these job openings because it thins out the talent pool for our new CS.
They will have Caldwell. This is one I am not worried about, the only threat for us is St. Louis. I would imagine theeir staff will stay intact. I can't imagine anyone would pick the Raiders or St Louis over us. Unless they are extrememely devout Christian or a face painting Satan workshipping masochist
I think Jim Caldwell was named his successor a while back, so it doesn't really create any new openings in the HC market.
This is incredible! I am shocked. ^^^^^And yes, it dilutes the pool of talented CS coming to the Jets--good point.
I don't see him coming back to coach for a long time if ever. Maybe a Gibbs type situation where once his youngest is all set with a family and Tony's just around with the wife he gets the bug again.
^ It depends – he talks to Jesus allot and if Jesus tells him to coach he will listen. Jesus told him to come back last year…and there you have it.
92-33!!! That is an impressive record. I have to say this guy has been a class act for as long as i can remember. He will land a job in football in a few years maybe not as coaching but def in some sort of capacity.
Agreed im surprised he stayed on as long as he did. Good Luck Tony whatever you decide to do. The guy was a class act.
Tony Dungy is the classiest man in all of football. He leaves behind a great coaching record and quite a legacy. The NFL will miss you, Tony! The league needs more men like you!
I'm concerned about that as well but not so much with the Colts. I don't think they'll be making too many CS changes if they're hiring from within.
Anyone read his book? I borrowed someones copy and read parts of it and it just all about Jesus and how Jesus told him to coach the Colts. Some wacky stuff.
Retired at 53. Not a bad gig, if you can get it. I have the great new chapter of the Tony Dungy story - he retires from the cut-throat world of professional football, and settles in for the next 10 years as head coach at West Point. A service-to-your-country thingy. Either that, or less heroically, he moves into a lean-to on a beach in Pago Pago, and teaches young Samoans the game of football with coconuts. He'll lecture the young lads about the dangers of the fire dance, and how bananas are only supposed to be for eating. His football missionary work culminates in a Disney-like challenge game against the New England Patriots, who have foolishly agreed to play on Pago Pago fields and under Pago Pago rules.
