Why do you keep calling Vernon "Duke"?

Davis is a tremendous prospect, had the production at Maryland, and of course the insane workouts (plus size). However, I will never say that he's a better prospect than Kellen Winslow II was. Of course, myself being a Hurricane fan, the discepancy between times I viewed them each play is rather ridiculous, somewhere in the 4 or 5-1 range, so naturally I'm going to have a much more developed opionion if K2.

Both were dominant, both are great athletes, both are solid blockers. What seperates Kellen in my mind is that I saw him make plays that moved him from just great player, to "one of a kind, i've never seen someone this good, oh my sweet lord" level. For instance, the play against WVU that saved the season. No one else in the country, maybe no one else in the past decade of college football makes it. Also, his dominance in the National title game vs OSU when the rest of the team was stagnant, even though the Buckeyes supposedly had the perfect defense to stop him.

Oh he's a better prospect than KW2 ... there's no doubt about it ... he's faster AND stronger

My Question was KW1 ... that's the guy I'm daring to compare Duke Davis with ... and I know {KNOW} that's borderline football blasphamy ... I'm basically comparing Davis to the Greatest TE I have ever seen, but I'm doing so only in terms of physical makeup, athleticism, and ability ... he still has to be that kind of pro, and that's a tall order

That's the thing, I don't see better prospect than Kellen Winslow II. I see great athlete, I see good production, I don't see better prospect, and once Kellen gets healthy, I don't see better NFL player.

Vernon never seperated himself from the likes of the other great TEs across the country. He had a very good season last year, but not the kind that made me sit back and say, wow, this kid is that much better than everyone else. When Kellen was playing, everyone knew who the man was. I commend Davis on his excellent draft status, I know I doubted the hell out of him before his workouts, but I won't give him praise to a level I just do not believe.

    * And it certainly isn't a criticism to say that Davis isn't as good as Winslow. Kellen was one of the best 5-10 college football players I'd ever seen. I commend Davis for his hard work and where he is now, he deserves all the credit in the world.

If anyone notices, Vernon Davis looks very good on paper. The problem is, is that until LATE FEBRUARY came around, Marcedes Lewis was the best tightend on the board, telling you that Vernon Davis' speed and weight lifts really brought him to the top. He never really dominated or took over games, whereas KWII was the vocal point of a passing game with Ken Dorsey. You didn't start hearing about him until Leonard Pope's hype stopped, and Marcedes Lewis speed questions. Davis isn't that polished of a route runner and no offense Jabba, but you fall in love with prospects a bit too easy.

Cutler and Davis both had tremendous workouts and after which you started pimping then. I'm not trying to knock you, because you have great knowledge of late round draft picks, but it is certainly an observation I made.

No offense Mr. Vilma, but you are wrong. If you paid close attention you would have seen Davis was getting his fair share of pub all season long and was the number one ranked TE ever since the season ended.

Perhaps you were to closely monitoring Pope and Lewis to notice, but since the end of the season he was a projected top 10 pick and his talents and measurables have been known since last year.

Actually I was touting {pimping} Jay Cutler as a TOP 5 Pick months ago, long before the senior bowl, combines, etc.

And as Rambo pointed out, Vernon Davis has been the consensus #1 TE for months

Other than that, your criticisms are well noted
