Stanley Doughty, DT out of South Carolina. The kid is 6-0, 331 pounds. Short and wide, exactly what we need. I don't know anything about this kid except height and weight though. Anyone know any more info about him?
I go to South Carolina....he's decent, but got kicked off and had to decalre early.....no way we take him
This is what I found on one Draft Site, even though I don't know how accurate the site is. http://www.robscouting.com/Reports/Doughty,%20Stanley.pdf If that's true I'd prefer to not take him. But maybe someone who saw him play can tell if this Scouting Report is true.
Outside of Alan Branch who will easily be drafted in the top 15, there are no eye popping guys that get your attention for the JETS to possibly fill the NT position. That's why the JETS will probably have to go the free agent route and get Terdell Sands and rotate him with Rashad Moore as the NT for the 2007 season for the JETS. The only other guy the JETS can take a look at it as a NT in the Draft is Paul Soliai from Utah who will possibly be drafted in the third or round round depending on his combine numbers.
Three things: 1. Amobi Okoye 2. Alan Branch is not a NT 3. There have not been eye-popping guys at the position in the first round of the draft since Vince Wilfork and Casey Hampton. Alot of the obvious NT choices end up playing a lot of 3-4 End while a lot of the NTs end up being later round guys just plugging holes. Think of the effectiveness a guy like Chris Hoke and Kelly Gregg have had at the Nose Tackle position. It is a very important part of the defense but doesn't take a lot of skill to play because the primary objectives are filling holes and taking on blocks.
The other option is to leave D rob where he is and developed over the latter part of the year w/ some success. Watch tape of the DL late in the year when our run d struggled. It was not D rob who was responsible for the falters, but rather Kimo getting absolutely mauled over, the MLB's over-running players, and Hobson's lack of speed. I believe that w/ some better depth behind D rob at NT in Pouha, and some better size/strength at the RE spot, our DL can have a vast improvement. Additionally that may have to be our plan, as the NT position appears to be no "quick fix" this offseason.
DeMarcus Tyler came in today at 6'2, 323. Also, his main attributes are his strength and initial punch. Combine that with his size, he could be someone we look at to be the NT.
About Tyler, from Draftcountdown2007 Strengths: Three-year starter with a lot of experience...Has excellent size...A good athlete with great quickness...Very strong and powerful...Is stout at the point of attack and can hold his ground...Will deliver a blow and drive blockers backward...Able to penetrate and disrupt the action in the backfield...Pursues and chases when he's not tired...Disengages from blocks well...Still improving & had his best year in '06. Weaknesses: Tends to get out of shape and stamina has been a problem...Does not have very good timed speed and lacks a burst to close...Needs to play with more consistent leverage and keep his pad level down...Needs to use his hands better...Only an average pass rusher...Work ethic, intelligence and intangibles are questionable. Notes: Nickname is "Tank"...Played on the same defensive line that produced three 2006 first round picks (Mario Williams, Manny Lawson and John McCargo)...Was briefly moved to the offensive line as a sophomore...Really broke out as a senior in '06 and elevated his draft stock a great deal which is all the more impressive when you consider that he wasn't surrounded my as much talent as he was in previous years...Will still take too many plays off but there is no denying the talent and he has the tools...A boom or bust type who could excel with a more consistent effort Linkhttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/dt/demarcustyler.html
