https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/11/us/politics/overdose-deaths-fentanyl-meth.html What can we do to stop this? Drug overdose have killed more people in the US than car accidents and gun violence COMBINED. This is a horrifying statistic and I'm not sure what the answer is.
Lol are you in a panic mode after all the "take guns away" chatter that you are trying to compare drug overdosing to gun violence? So Fentanyl is so strong as a synethic that drug traffickers are too compelled to mix it, but people who take heroin, meth, cocaind know what they are taking risk. Drug traffickers mix that shit up and it's def going to lead to more people's deaths, high profile celebs/athletes dying too. But from everything I have read, Pharmaceutical Fentanyl was developed for pain management treatment of cancer patients and for severe pain after surgery. Because of its powerful opioid properties, Fentanyl is also diverted for abuse. Fentanyl is added to heroin to increase its potency, or be disguised as highly potent heroin. Not sure if there is a good alternative here, but people should be scared of doing cocaine, heroin, and meth
It's the leading cause of death for men 18-45 years old. There should be panic. Open border policy has contributed mightily...
Opioid crisis, oxy, painkillers abuse has been a issue since the late 90s. Let's dig up some of those stats you were talking about. Show me demographics and income levels... The amount of people I come across making 6 figures and doing cocaine like its a whiskey shot is crazy. Here is a interesting chart on overdosing over the years.
Everything is Trump's fault. We all know that. For a second there I thought you were gonna blame the white patriarchy...
Fentanyl has been used medically for over 60 years, the problem is not the legal use of it. I'm not sure what they need to do to control the fentanyl but much of this was exacerbated by the doctors over prescribing, which I feel should be illegal and it probably is, to become rich. I was prescribed hydrocodone and morphine for many years and it wasn't until years later that I recalled a conversation with my pain management doctor. We were discussing taxation and ways the government should address the inequality. I mentioned going to a flat tax so that those making $5M and more a year actually pay their fair share. He respondeded, "Why should I have to pay more taxes just because I make $5M a year". Now mind you, this was not a major city, it was not a rich area, and he was talking about making $5M a year prescribing opiods and other drugs but mostly opiods. Of course some of those patients have gone on to become addicts, some using fentanyl since the other drugs just weren't getting them high anymore. Banning fentanyl will not solve the problem, heroin has been illegal for years and this hasn't stopped the use of it. In most cases the addicts are not starting out with fentanyl, they'll just look for something else when what they are currently using is not enough.
It is scary. Even being a dumb college kid is scary. Safe to say there's a lot of experimenting going on at that age, and the chances of you getting a fatal dose is higher than ever. SCOTUS rejecting the idea of holding doctors personally responsible for being pill factories sure didn't help. This is a subject that hits home for me personally, and I know for a fact there are doctors out there who illegally distribute addictive drugs, they are now protected. I've lost friends to drugs, sure a lot of people here have. I never had any want to do injectable drugs or pills, I don't even like taking aspirin. But we a father it's terrifying. Parenting, education and rehabilitation would be the first steps to fixing it.
That's some scary stuff. Where is the Fentanyl coming from? Are they robbing pharmacies? Are they buying it from people that have an Rx for it?
I have a very close relative who has battled opioid addiction for years. I pray he doesn't get ahold of this shit.
