If the top 5 is the Longs, DMC, Ryan, and Gholston in whatever order, this would be the best possible thing the Jets could do and seems possible with all of Tannenbaum's draft maneuvering. First, trade the #6 and two 4th rounders to DEN for the #11 and #42. If the Broncos still badly need a DT, they're probably going to be targeting Dorsey and Ellis. However, they likely have to get ahead of the Saints and Bengals in order to get one, so doing this deal gives them the choice between the two. As for the Jets, it's the perfect spot because they stay one spot ahead of the RB-needy Panthers and can grab the BPA, Rashard Mendenhall. Then, package the #36 with the #42 to move back into the mid-first round...the pick value chart says the highest we could get is 16 with those two, which would be great. This would allow us to fill our last remaining need, CB, with either Jenkins, Talib, or Rogers-Cromartie (I'm assuming McKlevin goes higher), all of who would look great next to Revis. If we could get a WR through FA, we'd have no more holes and would come out of the draft with two highly rated players, plus a 4th, 2 5ths, a 6th, and a 7th if the D-Rob trade goes down. This would be my ideal scenario. Thoughts?
I love it Mendenhall and Cromartie in one draft that would crazy and with all the free agents signings the less players in the draft the better.
Denver is at 12 and 44. This is quite a cunning scenario you've drawn up. It's possible for us to do this and it would certainly help us out in terms of cap, need, and flexibility in the draft. But i'd stay put with #36 and 44 at #12 getting Mike Jenkins, Merling, or Harvey... We can get two BPAs in rd 2 and be highly set for the season. I bet a GM would like your thinking on this one.
Very well thought out! While I like the scenario - and it is very plausible - I would think that, if it did happen, that trading back into the 1st round would not happen. If the CB route is too be addressed in round 2, I would think Jenkins or Cromartie would be around at the top of round #2. Especially Cromartie, while the Sr. Bowl and combine were stand-outs for him, I'm not sure he will go in the 1st round...That's just my opinion. Whle the trade up last year for Harris seemed to be a no-brainer based on our needs last year and the fact that many (Kiper Included) had Harris a Top 15 talent, I do not see someone that would fill such a glaring need dropping in the 1st round. The only exception being Talib, who IMO is more of a "Revis" type DB that any of the others you mention. I doubt WR will be addressed in free agency and I don't see any WR talent worthy of moving up from the top of Rd 2 to grab..Possibly Sweed, who i'm not sold on and Devin Thomas from Mich. St., but again IMO neither is impressive enough when compared to the other WR coming out that either would warrant giving up another pick to go and get.. Good Job!
There could be as many as five or six CBs taken in round one. The following players will go in the top 20 for sure: DRC McKelvin Jenkins Round two will be far too late. Using our first four picks to get a RB and CB at # 11 and # 16 would guarantee us a top 3 player at each position. Given the depth at both positions we would get pro bowl talent at one or both positions. Our weaknesses at # 2 safety, # 3 wide receiver and # 2 inside linebacker would be mitigated by our huge strengths at other positions. Also picks # 11 and # 16 would cost less than # 6 all by itself.
I really like this idea it seems to give us way more flexibility than the sixth pick does. If we hang on to the sixth we are handcuffed into having to give a larger contract. Im not sure about trading again to get back in the first round unless we are sure one of the top CB's wont last. But i def like the Mendenhall pick.
Why would we give Denver extra picks with the #6 if we're trading down to #12? That gap is going to be worth the #44 alone? Certainly not 2 fourths of a difference. If we're giving up extra picks we should insist they take Robertson as part of the deal.
