Hypothetical Draft Trade Proposal W/ Cleveland

I've been trying to figure out how we can get into the third round...

Our favorite trading partner cleveland has three picks in the 3rd Round (69, 85, & 92).

Would you trade out of the first round (giving Cleveland 29 and getting their 2nd rounder, 38) in return for 92? (of their 3 3rd rounders the 92 is the only one that gets us close point value-wise)

It boils down to us going from 29 to 38, to pick up a 3rd rounder, toward the end of the round.

I'm not really advocating this, just curious what others think.

I make the trade on draft day if someone we really target is gone. If we can't get a difference maker by the staffs' perception, move back get depth. Personally, I might do it today but would hate for someone to drop on draft day and kick myself.

Well our pick is worth 640 points (on the value chart) with them giving us the 39th pick it would be worth 510 pts which would leave about 130 pts. The 92 pick is worth 132 pts. Just off about 2 points. So in theory it would work.It would be that terrible moving 10 spots down to pick up a third but that low of a third sort of worry's me.

Well, as much as it pains me to say this, we could probably trade Leon for a third round pick and we could stay in the first

Yes. Yes I would. The only way that changes is if someone drops precipitously (like Thomas) that we can't even imagine being available right now.

I sincerely doubt Holmgren will deal with us. If anything he wants his picks to rebuild his team. IF there is a trade (big IF), it doens't make sense to me to move back unless there is no one we want at 29. Also trading down like that is not Tannenbaum's M.O. He trades up to get what he wants. His move for Kerry Rhodes tells me he needed more cards in his deck to use so he can make those big moves. Since he's been here we haven't sat tight at our pick.

I make that trade provided Iupati(I just can't let it go) or someone who I never thought we had a chance to grab manages to drop to 29.

    Hell yes.

But Holmgren's got the keys now. He may put the kibosh on Mangini's draft handouts.

I've been banging the trade down with Clevland drum for a while now. Cleveland is definitely setting up to make a move. Remember, they also got the Raiders 3rd rounder for Wimbley. Cleveland needs impact players. I can see them jumping up for Demario Thomas, Golden Tate or if they fall in love w Colt McCoy. They have enough ammo to do anything and still have picks. If they don't move up I'd be surprised if they don't go after STL 2nd rounder.

The Browns do have a ton of picks. I wouldn't mind moving down if our guy isn't available.

    Per rotoworld:

This actually makes sense for both the Jets and the Browns.

Look who's selecting behind us: the Minnesota Vikings. They could definitely go after a young, developmental quarterback prospect to groom behind Favre.

Hopefully things fall this way, and the Browns try to jump ahead of the Vikings.

Hopefully. I'd love to trade in this draft, whether it's up a few spots if some stud drops (unlikely) or down a few spots to pick up some later picks (much more preferred and likely). This is a plausible scenario, and it's better than being stuck with Hughes/Benn/Sapp at 29.

It's unfortunate the Seahawks decided they liked what they saw in Whitehurst. I was looking forward to a bit of a cat and mouse game between the Seahawks and Browns possibly leading to a draft day trade with us. That's not a bad point for the Vikings, though. You have to figure that they want someone for the long term, and McCoy would fit in well with that offense.

I was telling someone yesterday that I could even see a (somewhat unlikely) scenario in which the Patriots bit if he was still around with the last of their 2nd rounders. Brady bounced back to a large degree last season, but I'm not sure how much longer he's going to be playing, and the Patriots failed with their late round development project in O'Connell. McCoy would be a good fit for that team as well.

The only way I'm opposed to this is if Leon goes for a second rounder or if someone we don"t expect to be there is still around. If Leon goes, we probably take a player who can return kicks. Actually if Leon goes, there is a good chance we move up. That would be 1,2,2,4,5,6,7 and not alot of roster spots.

You don't draft kick returners in the first round...especially with someone like Brad Smith on the roster.

    That would actually be a 2nd, a 2nd, a 4th, a 5th, a 6th, and a 7th. ...not a lot of roster spots? I'm sure there's room for five or six draft picks and a couple UDFAs.

We definitely don't have to go after a player that can return kicks early. We can either let Brad Smith keep the job, go after a return specialist late in the draft, or allow a sleeper like Larry Taylor take over.

He is building an even bigger mess from the looks of things - his FA moves have been bizarre for the most part - he better hope for a better draft.

WOW. Relax a little. Wouldn't it make sense if we do draft a CB,S or WR in the first round that we draft one that can return as well? ex. Golden Tate, Kyle Wilson(I know we would have to move up) etc. Brad was good at kick offs, but punt returning was the problem without Leon. That's what we had JCo doing and not that well. Why do you think we would lose a first rounder? Its seven draft picks if Leon goes.
