Chiefs Win Coin Flip; 11th Pick In 2012 NFL Draft by Joel Thorman Feb 24, 2012 7:11 AM CST The Kansas City Chiefs are unstoppable when it comes to coin flips and they demonstrated that again on Friday morning. KC won a coin flip over the Seattle Seahawks, which means they'll be drafting 11th in the 2012 NFL draft. The Seahawks are drafting 12th. The Chiefs and Seahawks both ended the season with the same record and the same opponent's record. It's just one spot but when you're talking about the top 12 picks one spot is a pretty big deal. Also flipping a coin this morning were the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers. The Dolphins beat out the Panthers so they'll be drafting 8th, and Carolina will pick 9th.
I don't get the coin flip yet we get screwed the last 2 years w/o even a coin flip. 2010 Chi drafts ahead of us despite: a)having a better record b)advancing as far as we did c)BEATING us in 2001 Philly drafts ahead of us despite the same record and beating us. It makes no sense.
It's dumb, the tiebreakers should be the same as for postseason. It's ridiculous that Chi had a better record than us, advanced to the same round, beat us head to head and still had a better draft pick.
I think he is refering to last season where both teams were 11-5, but Chicago beat NYJ in the regular season. Both teams made it to the Championship games, but lost. The Jets picked 30th and the Bears picked 29th.
what does Chicago being 8-8 in 2011 have to do w/ the 2010 season and 2011 draft? The system is not fair. 2010: NY Jets 8-8, WC, #6 seed Chi, 8-8 div champ, #2 seed Chicago beat us head to head Chicago hosted the title game, we lost on the road how is it fair that we drafted lower than them? B/c NE wins 14 games in the reg season and skews the SOS while GB only had 10 wins? There's no way we should have drafted being Chi in '10 and in '11 we should be ahead of Philly b/c they beat us. The draft is in place to give the lesser teams a chance to get first crack at new talent. Philly was 8-8, we were 8-8, Philly beat us- we were the lesser team. Again, NE skews this as the Giants were 9-7 but won the SB while NE was 13-3 and lost so Philly had the better team in their division but we get penalized b/c we had the better reg season team. Now they use the playoffs to determine the order so why can't they use GB winning it all and the Giants winning it all the last 2 years?
Approx 2 to 3 years ago the NFL changed the seating of draft picks that make the playoffs, I didn't like it, it did screw us out of a few spots since we were a wildcard and we advanced to the AFC champ game. The teams from 1-20 (no playoffs) I have no issue with the process of 1st tiebreaker being W-L and then SOS.
They're in such a good spot. Although I'm not a RAM fan, I'm just so damn curious what kind of trade proposals they're dealing with. They've got their franchise qb & there's gotta be GMs just falling over themselves to get that pick.
youve got to think its going to be with the browns - the coaches know each other, everyone says the Rams want Kalil or blackmon and can guarantee to get one or the other at #4 - annoying that the other top QB prospects decided to stay put this year as otherwise the top 10 would have been a huge trade fest.
i dont think it would have matter much. I don't see the phins and panthers as likely to be locked on to the same player. meaning it wouldnt have mattered who drafted first.
Ask the Panthers if they think that way. Miami is converting to a 4-3 D. They could easily want the same DL or LB that Carolina would want.
