In consideration of our receipt of 2 compensatory picks in each the 6th and 7th rounds, might Mike T & Co. consider drafting either a kicker or punter with one of these selections?

Are there any kickers or punters worthy of a late-round selection?

Well since Brunnell is not coming back he was a great holder for Fickel Fol. Now they say T.J Conley is also a very good holder. Do we want to waste a pick on a kicker or punter and have McElroy basically a rookie also doing our holding?

it depends on who is available. We still have a lot of holes where these picks could have some value. I am personally looking at a pair of offensive linemen that could be available with these picks.

This year's crop of kickers is solid but the crop of punters is legit. Taking a 6th or 7th-round flier on a punter to compete with Conley is a great move IMO.

This please there is no better compliment to a defense like a great P they can change the game honestly as far a field position goes.
And I'd like to see some competition for FOLK as well so I would not be made to grade a K as well

I'd like to improve. I don't have a quote, but I am pretty sure Westhoff said this class is really strong in the K/P department.

Wouldn't hate it. Both our specialists are replacement level. For such a late pick, I would be okay with it. No earlier than round 6.

It should be noted that punter prospects Shaun Powell (47), Bryan Anger (44.3), Drew Butler (44.2), Brian Stahovich (44), and Kyle Marstens (43.6) all averaged more yards per punt than TJ Conley (42.7). The greatest benefit to Westy staying on an extra year may be his contribution to evaluating which punter to draft this year.

NO NO NO NO to drafting a kicker.....a team should never ever draft a kicker - especially with the modern 7 round draft. if a team cannot find a player worthy of a 6th or 7th round pick thats not a kicker - they haven't done their homework.

i am not as negative about a punter - i can see a team taking very late pick and selecting a punter. i would prefer not to but i could see it.

Hopefully if they draft one or both they are good enough to make the team, otherwise those picks will just be wasted. Sometimes you can improve with people cut after camp.

oh, I just saw that jilozzo basically said the same thing.

For the most part and I don't know why, it seems like the Jets front office views late round picks as worthless.

Slauson worked out, but was he the best player on the board, or did they take him because of Callahan? Using a 7th round pick on Scotty Mcknight was a joke.

Tannenbaum I'm not sure where said that he would rather trade up with those picks and just sign UDFA.

He doesn't have a choice this year since he can't trade 4 of those picks.

Barring a drafted punter that beats him out in camp, most likely...

I'm not that down on our specials as others, but with 10 picks, this would be the year to get a big legged P or K.

Apparently Drew Butler's dad is Kevin Butler (Kicker, Bears, late 80s early 90s).

Another interesting name may be Brad Nortman (though he's likely to be an UDFA) from Wisconsin. He was really good at getting punts inside the 20 and avoiding touchbacks. The downside, though, is that he's not as consistent as he should be.
