Former Jets DE Marques Douglas agrees to terms with Miami Dolphins » By Manish Mehta The Daily News has learned that ex-Jet Marques Douglas has agreed to terms on a two-year deal for $2.5 million with the Miami Dolphins. The Jets, who lack quality depth along the defensive line, seemed to be a logical destination for the veteran free agent defensive end. Instead, Bill Parcells scooped him up for the Jets’ AFC East rivals. Douglas, of course, was one of three defensive players Rex Ryan brought over from the Baltimore Ravens last season. He played in all 16 games with 12 starts for the Jets in 2009. Douglas will help fill the void left by Miami defensive end Phillip Merling, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury this week. The 11-year pro will be re-united with Dolphins’ defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, who coached Douglas in Baltimore and San Francisco. Stunning. Oh well the Dolphins offered him something meanwhile I bet the Jets didnt offer him anything yet. Looks like the Phins will need any DE they can get. They may soon miss Taylor, and Porter since Merling is done. AND all the rookies they will have to start.
Devito has a lot of potential, I think. I can actually see him having a breakout year with enough playing time. I am sorry to see Douglas go. He was a good player.
The part that I hate the most is his knowledge of Rex's system and where he's going. He's been in his defense for 2 years straight. That's all-
Whats he gonna tell them ? The Jets are gonna cover you in man then send the house ? Think theyll know that by now. Beauty of Rex's schemes is they already know exactly whats gonna happen, they just dont know where its gonna come from, and theres nothing they can do about it
Yeah but I'm sure he's got some secrets. I know he can't dismantle the whole d, but he's had a lot of time in it.
This makes sense now. The Dolphins obviously wanted someone who had experience in Mike Nolan's defense. Since they couldn't acquire Spears from the Cowboys, they turned to Douglas who played under Nolan in Baltimore and San Francisco. Good move by the Dolphins.
Hey, makes a ton of sense! Plus for 2.5 mill good for him... I just hope he doesn't explain them too many secrets about Rex's D.
Nolan and Ryan were on the same team together in Baltimore. I'm not sure what you guys are afraid of.
He got more money and a chance to start in Miami. Here he would be getting a much smaller check and have been a situational player at best.
