I'm willing to see how the season plays out before making any big wholesale moves, or clearing house, or scorching the earth, yada, yada, yada. Right now, it's difficult to impossible to say who is or isn't a problem simply because team wide, there's a lack of fundamental execution. On Defense, we have missed tackles, missed assignments and bad technique. On offense, we have missed blocks, poor routes, poor hands, poor technique in blocking, running, receiving and passing. The devil is largely in the little details that we just aren't doing. We can't even really evaluate the "schemes" being used on offense or defense because we don't know how effective these "schemes" would be if execution was better all up and down the line. I'm not saying this to defend Sanchez, the coaches or anyone else. We've all watched great running backs have terrible games because the Oline couldn't open up holes. Doesn't matter who the back is (except for perhaps Barry Sanders). If the 49'ers didn't block well, Frank Gore got stuffed. If the Bears didn't block well, Matt Forte got stuffed. We've also seen games where great QBs have done miserably, most often due to poor protection and WRs not catching balls. Aaron Rodgers has had bad games when he has had no time to throw and receivers were dropping passes. Same thing applies to the defense. Poor tackling leads to being on the field longer. Poor tackling results in opposing teams having favorable down and distance situations. Same with blown coverages or poor coverage technique
great perspective. i support what you're trying to say. the jets need to get better fundamentally, and thats on Rex.
Given that its Tuesday instead of Monday this is much easier to see. 9-7 or 10-6 is still conceivable. It also helps that the cowboys looked worse, against a worse team last night.
To be totally honest here, now that the Jets are 2-4. I really think it is time to panic. Mighty Mark just isn't in the cards for the New York Jets. Lets just face the facts here... The time for change is NOW
I agree with you to an extent, but it falls on the coaching staff to have these players playing fundamentally sound. Then again I just don't think we have the talent on this team to do anything extraordinary.
I guess we Patriots fans should thank you for the two extra BYE weeks this year. It will really help keep us fresh for our playoff run. Keep it up folks. We really appreciate your support.
I still see the Jets at 4-4 or 5-3 going into the bye week, if that's the case you hold steady, if they're 3-5 or 2-6 going into the bye I believe they come out of it looking considerably different.
It definitely falls on the coaching staff, didn't mean to imply otherwise. When I said that we couldn't evaluate the coaches, I was thinking more of scheme; ie. does sparano suck as an OC? Can Pettine call the correct defenses? Also, are the respective coaches making the right personnel decisions? Don't think we can make that determination right now. Yeah, we're 2-2. It's definitely not the end of the world. Yes we played a bad game, but it's true that Sanchez has not had his #1 target all season. It's also true that 1 game is 1 game. People need to relax a bit and stop over reacting. Let the season actually play out a bit before jumping to conclusions. We all knew that our schedule was tough early but easier later. We all knew that 3-5 heading into the bye was a realistic concept because of the tough defenses we play early. If we're 4-4 at the bye we have a great shot at making playoffs, heck even 3-5 is doable. Don't forget it's all tied up in our division now. We already knew San Fran is one of the best teams in the league. Shit happens, lets move on since we're still tied for 1st and see what happens. It ain't over by a long shot.
I was avoiding these threads because I knew everyone would be having a seizure over how bad the game went but I expected to lose this one and for there to be a good game. I wasn't expecting a close game at all. This game sucked, yes but I'm going to take it week by week and then reserve my judgement until week 8. I also expect just as bad of a game next week, as well.
but you expecting them to lose 2 out of the next 4 is.. what? i think most fans HOPE we win this game. but it's a stretch to say you expect them to win.
^^^Ok, while I don't agree with you as far as pulling the plug on the "no weapons or OL to work with" Sanchez altogether, you're entitled to your opinion. However .... vvvv ^^^...this is why you're an asshole. _
I don't know, man. I know where you are going with this, but the Jets just seem like a mess organizationally. To me, this analysis applies more to GB, NO, and DET. They aren't executing, but they have the coaching and talent. Well NO's coach is out, but you know what I mean. Jets are doing well, what I kind of expected them to do with the lack of weapons, what I believe is a terrible head coach in Rex Ryan, and a brewing QB controversy. It is amazing to me that the Jets are 2-2 right now. Jets fans shouldn't panic right now, but the signs of an impending melt down are there. Something better change quick or people are getting fired.
Week 8! The mid way Mark! This is the week to evaluate. If we suck, blow it up, clear salary, and see what we have. If we have a realistic chance at the playoffs, stick with it.
The true problems with the Jets this season are: 1) we can't run the football effectively 2) Revis is gone
Thing is, lack of actual talent would explain why LOST to the 49'ers, what it doesn't explain is why we GOT OUR ASSES KICKED SO BADLY. That wasn't just due to lack of talent.
^ it was 17-0 before Holmes threw the game away. It was still a game and we were still very much alive until Holmes did his holding knee act. The morale of this team took a Big hit with the loss of Revis and all motivation was completely stripped after Holmes child act.
3) QB with the worst accuracy in all of football 4) A slow old defense that cant stop the run 5) A stubborn overrated coach who refuses to adjust 6) Wide receivers who cant catch or get open The list goes on...
