Here's one vote that the jets do not draft a QB on day 1, or at all this year. They need a big-time WR more than anything, and could also use a CB, OLB (assuming Gholston still stinks ), and depth on the OL. The worst thing to do to Ratty and Clemens is to draft a QB--Every time Ratty or Clemens miss an open receiver, then the mob will be hollering for a change. I know that the response will be "We are not drafting a QB for THIS year, we are drafting him for 2010 and beyond"-- Sorry, not sold. It's high time for the jets to take a REAL look at Ratty and Clemens, and why give them someone to look over their shoulder at? Many fans think that the best QB is always the high draft pick QB on the bench. Finally, since I'm writing, I would NOT waste even a 7th round pick on a "blocking" TE, as some as proposed--I can't believe that you can't get a "blocking "TE as a free agent or waiver pickup.

I don't think many people here want us to draft a QB, think you are preaching to the choir

even massengill couldn't make this perspective any more "fresh".

  7. Sorry....4 years ago I mightve agreed w/ this..and perhaps i'm not adamant that we draft a low round QB..but at the sametime i'm fed up w/ this franchise and fan base being passive about finding a true young franchise QB.

Our team history suggests immense success w/ drafting qb's in the first round and sporadic mediocrity within later picks, trades and free agency. The history ALSO suggests the lack of a franchise QB has been our achilles heel.Teams under Namath,Kob,Todd and CP all were playoff teams and ALL were first round picks. Compare that to other QB era's excluding Testaverde...and the information is excessively apparent.

Let's nip this in the butt once and for all and give ourselves a chance to win a championship.

There are no franchise QB's in this draft, if there was one worth taking then i would be all for it, but Freeman?? likely to be the only one left, will take a pass. Next year is the best year to find a franchise QB in the draft, serious talent, there is no point taking one, just for the sake of taking one.

perfectly said. The fear is strong in this culture about QBs. The vast majority didn't want Matt Ryan if he fell to #6 last year, because of this fear of taking a QB that high. Imagine if he did fall to #6 and the fanbase was left with the decision? They would have skipped over him out of fear alone.

In 2006 everyone wanted a QB to be ready for 2009, now it's 2009 and we want a guy to be ready for 2012, when that gets here people will be screaming for a future guy for 2015. It's a cycle that can go on forever.

If we had drafted Cutler in 06 or let Clemens play with a rebuilt line last year we might actually have a Qb that was ready to win instead of play in 09. Instead we went with the bad choices behind door number 2 and are worse off because of it.

We did take a QB in '06. As of now he looks no worse off then two of the three QBs taken in roiund one. I'm all for starting Kellen or Brett this year and drafting another QB.

If by some weird fate Sanchez is there you take him and never look back, but I don't see it happeneing. I'm not sold on Freeman myself, but worse things could happen to us in the draft. I don't really see us moving up for any QB in this draft. I''d rather fianlly start building some quality depth on both lines and at RB where TJ is getting old.

HEY SOMEONE MAKES A POINT.. so now.. instead of repeating ourselves again.. GIVE RATTY AND CLEMENS A SHOT.. we need to see what these two guys have.. anyone who says "we need a qb" doesn't know what they're talkin about.. not because i think BR or KC are studs.. but b/c no one knows what these guys are capable of doin.. i am not a Freeman fan at all.. he's big and had a strong arm.. and so do a lot of QBs in college.. that doesnt make a god NFL QB.. next year's draft has great talent at QB so if BR AND KC fail.. then we know... and then there won't be any speculation about unprovens.. we will know that we need a qb.. and we are going to get one..

Hopefully that is the plan. For once we can find out if we have a Qb in house like a winning Franchise and stop trying to put band aids at the position for a quick fix every year. If Kc and Ratliff can not do the job our future lies in the 2010 draft. I hope our coach is on that page.

What are the quick fixes every year over the past 10 years? Please share.

I can think of one, Favre in 2008.

That's because there aren't any others. From 1998-2007, a decade, we had Vinny and Chad in place and made the playoffs five times. That's pretty stable and productive compared to most teams, regardless of what you thought of either guy.

I know this is a little bit out there, but if the Jets really want a qb via the draft to compete with what we have, look at Pat White in the late rounds. He was a winner in college, throws well on the run to both sides, and has adequate arm strength. If it turns out he cannot play qb at the NFL level we have another Brad Smith type player. We def have more pressing needs, at WR and CB .Worth a shot in a later round, in my opinion.
