NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Jets contacted Mike Shanahan again Saturday. Schefter sat down with Shanny for over an hour on the day the Mastermind was fired, so it's safe to say he'll be leading the way on all news Shanahan. The former Broncos coach prefers to take two weeks off before talking to anyone. If the Jets don't hire a coach by then, the two sides could speak. Source: NFL.com
I dont think we'll be naming a coach anytime soon, so Shanahan will be in the mix. At this point, he would be my choice.
Music to my ears!! It'll be at least another 2 weeks before we're able to interview Ryan anyway, so this is perfect.
From the news I've been hearing about Favre leaving, are these reports about Tannywood not wanting a veteran HC true anymore? I mean I hate to think we're limiting ourselves to rookie HCs because the front office thinks they know everything about personnel matters. I basically thought Tannywood wanted a rookie HC because they wouldn't speak out against Favre...
All of the reports we've been hearing don't make a whole lot of sense when put together. It's hard to say what the heck is really going on. I almost want to forget about this team until next month, but it's hard to resist.
Yeah I mean I don't mind Spags so much and Rex Ryan is my favorite so far, but I'd like to see Shannahan and Marty at least be considered for the spot. I know I want to forget about this team for awhile too, the Cards and Chargers were so exciting to watch today....:manning:
I think this organization currently has no clue what direction it wants to go in. So why not try and wait out Shanahan? I don't understand at all why a fan wouldn't want us to bring in a hall-of-fame caliber coach. Obviously, he's the best option of anyone available, since Cowher is a dead issue.
right now there are five teams looking for a new coach and four of them would like to have Shannahan. We will take too long to hire and he will already be gone.
I hate Shanahan (not personally, but from a Jets' fan perspective). Now that Mangini's gone, players and coaches are coming out to bash him for his "cloak and dagger" tactics. Yet Shanahan is the ultimate control freak. He would require "total control." You can forget about having a GM or player personnel guy with any kind of influence.
I think Shanny really wants the SD job and is waiting to see if that will come open, or if he can whisper in someone's ear. If you were Shanny which other job would you want? He gets to play Oakland twice a year, great weather, great talent, etc.
