Tough situation for the Fins. They learned something this year about breaking the bank in free agency.

If Philbin goes the Fins are one of the teams I would expect to be looking at QB's in the 1st round.

I guess either Philbin is lame duck or he's calling the shots ala Rex, right? Lol

    GM Jeff Ireland fired.

This disappoints me. I loved the contracts he handed out.

I'm looking fore fire-sale value from their roster. They got some good LBs and Ss that can be had on the cheap.

I remember exactly where I was a couple months ago when I heard on the radio, "the 3-0 dolphins give Ireland contract extension", I remember exactly. I laughed so hard. Saw this coming from a mile away.

I highly doubt it. It'll be a while still before they realize RT1 sucks.

What are you talking about? They had one of the worst linebacking corps in the league this year. Their safeties suck too.

What's interesting is what GM is going to want to come in and NOT pick his own coach? That is kind of odd, similar to what happened to the Jets last year. I wonder if the new GM will have the power to decide whether to keep Philbin or whether he's being told Philbin stays this year.

Talk to me again once that confounded franchise leaves for the greener pasture. Till that happens, Jills are not worth even thinking about, starting with that moron of a HC.

I literally LOL'ed at the thought of this:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/miami-dolphins/post/_/id/4521/dolphins-copying-blueprint-of-2013-jets

    Make it happen, Ross!

    Letter to Tannenbaum:

I would like to apologize for my harsh language during your tenure with the Jets. With all due respect, I would like to humbly notify you that Jets 1st round pick this year is available for the following package:

    2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th this year
    1st and 2nd next year
1st and 3rd the year after.

I know this is a deal you cannot refuse.

    Respectfully yours,

    Zach

What he said is true. Their LBs were thought to be good last year during FA, but they both sucked on the Dolphins, while the two they got rid of played really well.

Given how badly he's done with that franchise I don't see how any AFC East fan outside of south Florida can be happy about this. Sure, maybe someone new can be even worse, but he was doing a pretty good job of being terrible.

Saw the following list on Palm Beach Post.

Jeff Ireland is out in Miami and here are a few names being tossed out by various media sources (in no particular order):

    1. Tom Gamble, Philadelphia director of player personnel: National Football Post, quoting a source, said Gamble is Miami’s top choice to replace Ireland. Gamble began his career in Philly and spent eight seasons as San Francisco’s director of player personnel before returning to Philadelphia this past offseason. Gamble would seemingly want full control of Miami’s operations in order to leave the Eagles again after one season. Jeff McLane, Eagles writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, reported this morning that Eagles GM Howie Roseman told a Philly radio station today that the Dolphins have not reached out yet to request permission to interview Gamble.

    2. Alonzo Highsmith, Green Bay senior personnel executive: The Dolphins are also expected to interview Highsmith, a former star running back for the University of Miami, according to National Football Post. He joined the Packers in 1999 as a scout and was named senior personnel executive in 2012.

    3. Scott Pioli, former Chiefs GM: Pioli helped build the Patriots dynasty as personnel man for New England in the 2000s, but he had less success as Kansas City GM from 2009 to 2012. He served as Jets director of pro personnel from 1997 to 2000 and worked with current Dolphins VP of football administration Dawn Aponte there.

    4. Mike Tannenbaum, former Jets GM: His tenure in New York ended with salary cap issues but he has ties to both Aponte and Matt Higgins, the CEO of Ross’ RSE Ventures and a top advisor to Ross. Both Aponte and Higgins worked for the Jets when Tannenbaum was there. The Jets made two AFC title game appearances under Tannenbaum.

    5. Eliot Wolf, Green Bay director of pro personnel: Another name thrown out by National Football Post, Wolf is the youngest director of pro personnel in the NFL and is son of former Packers GM Ron Wolf. He has worked for Green Bay since he was hired by then-GM/coach Mike Sherman, who was fired as Miami’s offensive coordinator on Monday. So Wolf also has ties to Dolphins coach Joe Philbin.

    6. Brian Gaine, Dolphins assistant GM: If Gaine is promoted to GM, the Dolphins might not give him full authority over personnel matters. Gaine could be a GM similar to Ireland when he was hired by the Dolphins six seasons ago and he worked under Bill Parcells, who was Dolphins VP of football operations. A scenario could include a Parcells-like VP coming from outside, or Aponte being promoted.

    7. Omar Khan, Pittsburgh director of football administration: Khan, 36, is considered GM material. But he’s also a numbers person, much like Aponte. So if Aponte remains with the team (she’s rumored to be up for a league exec job), it remains to be seen if she would co-exist with Khan. But the Dolphins are said to have interest in him.

    8. Carl Peterson, former Chiefs GM: As long as Stephen Ross owns the Dolphins, Peterson’s name will always come up. Peterson, 70, ran the Chiefs from 1989 to 2008 and is a long time friend and business associate of Ross.

    9. Eric Mangini, San Franciso offensive senior consultant: His name has been thrown out by various media outlets although he has never served as GM, personnel director or administrator. He was Jets head coach from 2006-2008 so he has ties to Aponte and Higgins.

    10. Bill Polian, former Colts GM: Another name that has been thrown out by various media outlets. He’s always been well regarded around the league and served as Colts GM from 1997 to 2011, which included a Super Bowl title. He’s 71 and the Colts were 2-14 in his final season, so this could be a long shot.
